This is a quick walk through the Bible. A lot has been left out. This is an attempt to introduce some of the main people you will find in the Bible. This is also a brief summary of some of the stories you can read in the Bible. The dates given are approximate and rounded to the nearest century in most cases. You may have been taught that the earth is billions of years old. There really is no concrete evidence for this. The philosophy of evolution is based entirely on theories and guess work. There is no proof, even though it is often taught as fact in many schools and colleges. Evolution has become a religion for many scientists. I have studied evolution and when you compare it to the Bible, the Bible makes a lot more sense. Christian scientists have produced countless facts and evidence that disprove evolution. I have included links below to some of these Christian scientist's websites if you are having problems believing what the Bible teaches.

The Old Testament

4000 BC – Genesis – Creation God creates the heavens and the earth and everything that is in them in 6 days.

Adam and Eve The first sin. The serpent (Satan), tricks Eve and her and Adam eat from the forbidden Tree of knowledge. They are sent out of the garden of Eden. Adam lives to be 930.

Cain and Abel The first murder. Cain is jealous of Abel's offering to God and kills him.

2300 BC – Worldwide Flood – Noah Everyone was very wicked except Noah. God tells Noah to build an ark and gather pairs of animals. The world is Flooded. Noah and his family with the animals on the ark are saved. Noah lives to be 950. Noah was 600 at the time of the Flood.

Tower of Babel All people speak the same language. People become proud and try to build a tower to reach heaven. God causes them to start speaking in different languages and they can't communicate. The tower cannot be finished.

2000 BC – Abraham God tells Abram that he will be the father of the Hebrew nation. (The Israelites). God changed Abram's name to Abraham and his wife Sarai's name to Sarah. Abraham and his family along with his nephew Lot and his family travel to Canaan. Lot goes by himself to Sodom. The people of Sodom and Gomorrah were very evil. God decided to destroy them. Lot and his family escaped but his wife looked back and was turned to a pillar of salt because God told them not to look back. Abraham lived to be 175.

Isaac Isaac was Abraham's son. God tested Abraham to see if he would sacrifice Isaac, but stopped him before he did. Isaac and his wife Rebekah had twins Jacob and Esau. Isaac lived to be 180.

Jacob and Esau Jacob trades a bowl of stew for his brother Esau's birthright. Later Jacob tricks his blind father Isaac into giving him Esau's blessing. God changes Jacob's name to Israel. Jacob has 12 sons who will form the 12 tribes of Israel. (Joseph's sons Manasseh and Ephraim form 2 tribes. Levi formed the Levites, a 13th priestly tribe living among the 12 tribes.)

Joseph Joseph could interpret dreams. Joseph's brothers didn't like him and sold him into slavery. An Egyptian named Potiphar bought him. Potiphar's wife loved Joseph but Joseph respected Potiphar and would not flirt with her. Potiphar's wife got mad and told lies to Potiphar and Joseph was put in prison. Joseph gets out of prison to interpret Pharaoh’s dream. Joseph is made 2nd in command to Pharaoh. Joseph saves Egypt and the surrounding area from 7 years of famine.

1750 BC – Job – Job God allows Satan to test a very righteous man named Job. Job looses everything he has but continues to praise God through it all. His friends try to accuse him of wrong doing. After Job passes his test God gives him back double of all he had. God talks to him mentioning the great beasts Leviathan and Behemoth.

1550 BC – Exodus to Deuteronomy – Moses Israel is becoming stronger and Pharaoh is afraid. He makes a law to throw all Israelite babies into the Nile river. Baby Moses is put into a basket in the Nile and saved by Pharaoh's daughter. Moses is raised, taught and treated much like an Egyptian prince. When Moses is older he kills an Egyptian who is beating an Israelite slave. Moses is forced to run away. God speaks to Moses from a burning bush and tells him to lead his people out of Egypt. Moses and his brother Arron go to Pharaoh but Pharaoh refuses to release the Israelites. God sends 10 plagues to the Egyptians, water turns to blood, frogs, lice, flies, pestilence, boils, hail, locusts, darkness, and finally death to all the firstborn males both human and animal. Each time Pharaoh refuses until the last plague when his son dies. Pharaoh lets them leave but soon changes his mind and goes after them with his army. Moses parts the Red sea and crosses, but when Pharaoh and his army tries to cross the waters close on them and they all drown. Moses leads the Israelites to Canaan and God provides them with Manna to eat and water to drink. On Mount Sinai God gives Moses the 10 commandments and the laws for them to live by. Moses builds a tabernacle to worship God and store the Ark of the Covenant and other items used to make sacrifices. After spies give reports of the land of Canaan the Israelites are afraid to trust God to give them the land. God makes them wander in the wilderness for the next 40 years until all the people over 20 are dead. Moses lived to be 120.

Joshua – Joshua After Moses dies Joshua is the new leader. He is the one who finally leads the Israelites into the promised land of Canaan. One battle Joshua fought was at Jericho where they marched around the city 7 times, blew trumpets, and shouted, then the walls crumbled.

Judges – Judges Judges were the first leaders of the Israelites. They were religious leaders chosen by God. 1300 BC – Deborah Deborah was one of the judges. She led the Israelites in defeating General Sisera's army.

Gideon Gideon was a judge who led a 300 man army to defeat 135,000 Amalekites and allies.

1100 BC – Samson Samson was a judge who took a Nazarite vow not to shave his head. His hair was the secret to his strength. He was the strongest man who ever lived. Once he killed a lion with his bare hands. Another time he killed 1,000 Philistines by himself with only a jawbone of a donkey. He finally revealed the secret to his strength to Delilah. His hair was cut, his eyes put out and he was taken prisoner. During a large gathering of the Philistines Samson was brought and he pushed down the pillars of the building causing it to crash and kill everyone including himself.

Ruth and Naomi – Ruth Ruth was Naomi's daughter in law who staid with her faithfully always.

Samuel – Samuel Samuel was dedicated to the service of God at a very young age by his mother. Samuel also took a Nazarite vow and didn't cut his hair. Samuel was the last of the judges. Samuel was the one who anointed both Saul and David king.

1050 BC – Kings – Samuel, 1st and 2nd Kings, 1st and 2nd Chronicles Kings led more by power than relying on God. God preferred the judges to kings. The people wanted a king instead of a judge so God unhappily agreed to it. Saul - Samuel Saul was the first king. Saul started out OK but became crazy as he got older. Saul was possibly possessed with an evil spirit. Saul's son Johnathan became very good friends with David, Saul's armor bearer and musician.

1000 BC – David – Samuel David was the second king. Saul had tried to kill David several times but was never successful. David was a good king. He was a great musician. When David was young and helping Saul he killed a Giant named Goliath. David made a bad mistake once and took another man's wife. Her name was Bathsheba. He had her husband killed, but later asked God for forgiveness. David wrote many of the Psalms (songs the Israelites used to worship God.)

Solomon – Samuel Solomon was Davids son. He was the third king of the Israelites. Solomon asked God for wisdom and became the wisest man to ever live. Solomon built the first temple. Solomon also wrote many of the Proverbs (wise instructions to live by.)

940 BC – The Kingdom Divides – 1st and 2nd Kings, 1st and 2nd Chronicles Bad kings started to rule and Israel divides north and south. The North 10 tribes kept the name Israel but the 2 southern tribes were called Judah. Ahab and his wife Jezebel were just 2 of the bad leaders during this time.

Elijah – Kings and Chronicles Elijah challenged Baal and his prophets. God burnt Elijah's altar stones and all. Baal, a false god and his prophets were unable to burn anything. Elijah performed many miracles with God's help. He caused a widow's meal and oil never to run out. He also brought her son back to life. Elijah left this world in a fiery chariot.

Elisha – Kings and Chronicles Elisha was Elijah's helper. Like Elijah he also performed many miracles with God's help. He also brought a boy back to life, caused a widow to have an almost endless supply of oil to sell, and cured Naaman of his leprosy.

800 BC – Jonah – Jonah Jonah ran from God's will and was caught in a storm at sea. He was thrown overboard and saved by a giant fish prepared by God. He remained inside the fish for 3 days. After that he reluctantly went to Assyrian and warned the people to change their ways like God wanted.

720 BC to 600 BC – During this time the Assyrians ruled. 650 BC Josiah – Kings and Chronicles Josiah was a good king. He repaired the temple and built a bonfire to burn the idols of the false gods. During the repairs they found an old scroll of the Israelite laws. Josiah reads it to the people.

600 BC – Jeremiah – Jeremiah From 600 BC to 550 BC the Babylonians ruled. King Nebuchadnezzar was the leader of Babylon. Jeremiah tries to warn the people not to rebel against Babylon but they won't listen and the Babylonians destroy Jerusalem and the temple.

Ezekiel – Ezekiel Ezekiel has visions of heavenly beings and of dry bones coming to life.

Daniel – Daniel Under King Nebuchadnezzar Daniel is made chief adviser. Daniel's 3 friends, Shadrach Meshach, and Abednego refuse to worship an idol of Nebuchadnezzar's. Jealous people tell on them and they are put into a fiery furnace. An angel comes and saves them from any harm. The Persians defeat the Babylonians, but Daniel is still well liked by the new Persian King Darius. Daniel is made a governor. Again people are jealous and they trick Darius into passing a law that Daniel breaks by praying when he wasn't suppose to. Daniel is put into a den of lions but God saves Daniel.

550 BC to 330 BC – During this time the Persians ruled. 500 BC – Esther – Esther Esther becomes Persian king Xerxes' queen. She saves her Jewish nation from death.

400 BC – Zerubbabel – Ezra – Nehemiah – Ezra – Nehemiah Between 550 BC to 450 BC the Persian kings Cyrus, Darius, and Artaxerxes allow 3 groups of Jews to return to Jerusalem. The first group led by Zerubbabel rebuilt the temple. Ezra the high priest led the second group back. The third group led by Nehemiah rebuilt Jerusalem's walls. After everything was completed Ezra read the Jewish laws to the people.

The New Testament

Close to year 1 AD. Close to the year 1 AD Jewish priest Zechariah and Elizabeth have a baby. They name it John, later to be known as John the Baptist. Elizabeth's virgin cousin Mary is told by the Archangel (high-ranking angel) Gabriel that she will also have a baby a few months after Elizabeth's baby. Her baby is to be the Messiah, the King of the Jews and savior of all nations. Joseph thought Mary had been with another man since she was going to have a baby, but an angel tells the carpenter Joseph to go ahead and marry his girlfriend Mary, because she was going to have God's son. Joseph and Mary go to Bethlehem to be counted by Caesar. Jesus is born while they are in Bethlehem. Originally it was thought that Jesus was born in year 1. There is actually no year 0. The years go from 1 B.C. to 1 A.D. Later is was found that Jesus was probably born 4 B.C. or earlier. No one really knows the exact date of Jesus' birth, only that it was most likely 4 B.C. or a little before. Angels visit shepherds in the field and tell them to visit baby Jesus in Bethlehem. Herod tells the visiting wise-men to find out where Jesus is. Herod wanted to kill Jesus. The wise-men follow the star to Jesus and bring him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. When the wise-men leave they go a different way and do not go back to tell Herod. Herod is very angry and orders all baby boys under 2, close to Bethlehem, to be killed. An angel tells Joseph and Mary to flee to Egypt. King Herod dies and an angel tells Joseph and Mary they can now return to their home in Nazareth.

When Jesus was 12 years old he went to the temple and amazed the priests there with his knowledge. John the Baptist lived in the wild eating locusts and wild honey. He told everyone he saw that the Messiah, King of the Jews was coming. He baptized people in the Jordan river. Jesus went to John the Baptist and had him to baptize him also. Jesus went to the desert alone for 40 days to pray and fast before he began his mission here on earth. While he was in the desert Satan tempted him several times.

Jesus began his mission by choosing his 12 disciples. Their names were Andrew, Peter, James, John, Phillip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James (the younger), Thaddeus, Simon, and Judas. Jesus performed many miracles like casting out demons, curing the sick, and bringing the dead back to life. The people in Jesus' own home town rejected him and tried to kill him by throwing him off a cliff, but Jesus escaped safely. Herod had John the Baptist put into prison for speaking badly about his marriage to his brother's wife, Herodias. Herod was afraid to have John the Baptist killed but later he granted his daughter Salome a wish, she asked for the head of John the Baptist on a platter. John the Baptist was then beheaded.

Jesus continued to perform miracles and preach and teach using parables (stories with hidden meanings) to people everywhere. The Pharisees and Sadducees (religious leaders) were growing madder and madder and wanted to kill him. While Jesus and his disciples were on a boat together a big storm came and Jesus calmed the storm. Jesus cast many demons out of a man named Legion. Jesus brought a Jewish religious leader named Jairus' daughter back to life. Jesus fed 5,000 men and their families with a boys lunch. The lunch contained 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread. Jesus walked on water. Peter tried to walk on water out to Jesus, but his faith wasn't strong enough and he began to sink. A Pharisee named Nicodemus came to Jesus at night and Jesus told him how to be saved. Jesus explained to the disciples what was about to happen to him when he would be crucified. Jesus was transformed and spoke with Moses and Elijah on a hill. Jesus gave his disciples the power to cure the sick and cast out demons. A little tax collector named Zacchaeus climbed a tree so he could see Jesus. Jesus cured blind Bartimaeus. Jesus revived his friends Martha and Mary's brother Lazarus after he was dead for 4 days.

Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey during the passover celebrations. This later became known as Palm Sunday. Jesus drove the crooked moneychangers out of the temple. Judas made a deal with the Pharisees to betray Jesus. Jesus washed his disciples feet and then had passover supper with them. This later became known as the Lord's Supper. Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane with his disciples to pray. Judas came and betrayed Jesus to the Pharisees with a kiss and Jesus was arrested. Peter denied knowing Jesus 3 times before the cock crowed. Judas hung himself out of guilt for betraying Jesus. The head Pharisee Caiaphas put Jesus on trial. Caiaphas and other Pharisees took Jesus to Pilate so he could be given the death penalty under Roman law. Pilate could not find anything wrong with Jesus' actions and offered to release Jesus or a murderer named Barabbas in honor of the passover celebrations. The angry crowd chose Barabbas over Jesus. Pilate gave Jesus back to the Pharisees and told them his death was on their hands not his. Jesus was whipped, beaten, spit on and made to carry a heavy wooden cross to Golgotha (Calvary) hill where he would be crucified. A Jew named Simon helped Jesus to carry the heavy cross. Jesus was crucified with 2 criminals, one of which got saved while on the cross. When Jesus died the veil (curtain) in the temple which separated the Holy of Holies tore into signifying the end of the old “works” law given to Moses and the beginning of the new “faith” law. The Roman centurion with Jesus realized then who Jesus was and said, “Truly this is the son of God.” Joseph of Arimathea and the Pharisee Nicodemus took Jesus away to Joseph's tomb.

After 3 days an angel rolled away the stone and Jesus was alive. Mary Magdalene was the first to see Jesus alive. Jesus walked to Emmaus with Cleopas and another person and was invited in for supper. They did not realize it was Jesus until he broke the bread and disappeared. The disciple Thomas doubted that Jesus was really alive until he touched the nail marks and spear mark on Jesus' side. 40 days after Jesus rose from the grave he ascended to heaven. The Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost and the disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit. They began speaking to people from many different nations and all understood them in their own language. Some call this speaking in tongues.

Peter and the disciples began traveling, preaching and spreading the gospel of Christ, saving many people everywhere. Ananias and Sapphira lied about their gift to God and died because of it. Stephen was killed for preaching the gospel and became the 1st Christian Martyr. An angel told Philip to go and help teach an Ethiopian official in a chariot about Christ. Philip did and after he Baptized the Ethiopian he disappeared and reappeared several miles away.

A Pharisee named Paul (Saul) of Tarsus hunted down all the Christians he could find. He hated them. One day Jesus appeared to Paul and convinced him to become a Christian also. Paul was blinded from the encounter. Ananias was told to go to Paul to cure his blindness and baptize him. So he did.

Peter revived Tabitha (Dorcas) from the dead. Peter had a vision of a sheet full of animals. God explained that the meaning of this was that gentiles need to hear about him and be saved also, not just the Jews. Peter taught and saved Cornelius, a Roman centurion. Herod killed disciple James the older and put Peter in prison. An angel rescued Peter and he went to the house of Mary mother of Mark. Rhoda answered the door and rushed to tell the others but forgot to let him in. Peter had to knock again.

Paul and Barnabas were mistaken for gods at Lystra. Paul and Barnabas split up at Antioch and Paul went visiting churches with Silas. Luke joined them on their way to Phlippi. Paul stayed with Lydia at Philppi and cast a demon out of a slave girl. The slave girls owners were angry because now she couldn't make predictions and they were thrown into prison. Paul and Silas sang while in prison. An earthquake caused their chains to be released and all the doors to open. The guard was worried but found they had not tried to escape. The guard and his family cared for Paul and Silas and were saved and baptized. Paul and Silas were released after telling that they were actually Roman citizens.

Paul went to Ephesus and converted many there to Christianity. The idol sellers became mad because this was hurting their idol selling business. They caused many to riot and Paul left before the mob got out of control and anyone got hurt. While Paul was teaching in an upstairs room in Troas, young Eutychus fell out of a 3rd story window and died. Paul revived him. Agabus warned Paul not to return to Jerusalem or he'd be arrested. He went anyway and as warned, was arrested. Over 40 Jews took a vow not to eat or drink until they killed Paul. Paul found out about the vow and let the guards know. The Romans snuck him out at night to Caesarea.

Paul decided to use his Roman right to a trial by Caesar. He left on a ship to Rome. A Roman centurion named Julius was in charge of the prisoners. The ship got caught in a storm and crashed on the Island of Malta. All 276 passengers made it safely to land. Paul was bitten by a poisonous snake but nothing happened to him. Again some people believed he was a god. Paul finally got to Rome and stayed there for 2 years under guard in a house he rented. He preached and taught all the visitors who came to see him. Paul wrote many letters to churches and friends he had visited and known. The churches he wrote to were the Romans in Rome, Corinthians in Corinth, Galatians in Galatia, Ephesians in Ephesus, Philippians in Philippi, Colossians in Colosse, and Thessalonians in Thessalonica. The friends he wrote to were Timothy, Titus, and Philemon. Paul helped a slave named Onesimus return to his master Philemon after he had ran away.

Paul wasn't the only one who wrote letters. Jesus' ½ brother James wrote a letter to Jewish Christians. Peter wrote letters to all Christians. Disciple John wrote letters to all Christians. Jesus' other ½ brother Jude also wrote a letter to all Christians. The disciple John received a vision of the final days when Jesus would return and what would take place during the time the beast was on earth until God's final judgment of man. Disciple John wrote about this vision in the book of Revelation. Revelation “reveals” the events of the end-times.
