***** FDISK ***** (Restoring Your Hard Drive) By: Mike mike@kids-online.net http://www.kids-online.net Steps To Follow: 1. SAVE EVERYTHING YOU DO NOT WANT TO LOOSE! 2. You will need your Windows 3.5" Boot Disk and/or your Windows Installation CD. 3. Make sure your computer boots from the A: drive first. Enter setup and change it if necessary. 4. Do not insert the CD at this time. Insert the 3.5" Boot Disk only. Boot your computer. 5. When asked to insert a CD, ignore it and press "Esc" to enter DOS. 6. At the "A:\>" prompt type "fdisk" (NO QUOTES). 7. Choose Y to enable large disk support. 8. Choose item 4 "Display partition information." 9. Delete all partitions except for the "Primary DOS" partition. Do NOT delete the special Windows Restore partition if you have one! 10. From the Main Menu, choose option 3 "Delete partition or Logical DOS Drive." 11. Choose item 1 "Delete Primary DOS partition." 12. Enter the Primary Partition number, (most likely 1). Follow the rest of the instructions. 13. Press "Esc" to go back to the main menu and select item 1 "Create DOS partition or Logical DOS Drive." 14. Next select item 1 "Create Primary DOS Partition." 15. For simplicity choose “Y” to use the maximum space for your partition. 16. When finished press "Esc" to exit FDISK. Hold down "Ctrl","Alt","Delete" at the same time to restart your computer. 17. After rebooting, get back to the "A:\>" prompt and type "format c:" (NO QUOTES). 18. After formatting put in the Windows Installation CD. (Some need the boot disk also. Others will boot from the special partition.) 19. Hold down "Ctrl","Alt","Delete" at the same time to restart your computer. 20. The Windows installation process should now begin. (Some may need to press a key to enter Windows setup/restore.)
