When I fell in love...

Last year I attended the Camp Dover Peace Conference. I, like many conference delegates, fell in love. I was browsing in the dealer's hall when I spied the most beautiful of man's creations. Beautiful, graceful, powerful, I was drawn like a junkie to a free dime bag. The curves captivated me - she was so ALIVE! Suddenly, Ideveloped a stupid, upturned grin that wouldn't go away. The headache I had all morning was gone. I knew that if my friends saw me approach her, I wouldn't stand a chance. They would crowd around, joking and poking fun until I had no chance of spending any time with her. I was right. They all stood there, so close to... to perfection, and they could not see! I made my way over to the counter and asked the dealer to take her off the stand. Yes, the object of my affection is none other than a limited edition Gil Hibben Odyssey 1115a fantasy knife. I have such good taste.

Beautiful, isn't she? First production run limited to 7500, 420 f2 steel, chrome and 14kt gold plating, the sheath signed by the man himself. Of course, once I asked to see her, my friends with deep pockets came a-runnin. Nate, aka "Patches," purchased her, the last one, the display model. After I got over the initial bouts of jealousy and homocidal rage, I began to realize that Nate wasn't such a bad owner. He'll never be able to appreciate the Odyssey the way I do, but he has a life. He will never take her out of the protective sheath and admire her for a few hours like I would. On the other hand, he won't dirty her with fingerprints while slaying imaginery demons who hide your utility bills... But don't worry! I have visitation rights! And, sometimes when I'm sitting in his apartment holding her, ignoring all my friends as I stare at her raptor-like winged guards, I can just hear her say, "Lenice, I always liked YOU best!"

OK, so I'm not totally serious. But this is a beautiful knife! If you don't believe me, just look at these:

See the custom stand? They don't make those for your Grandma's kitchen knives!

Message for friends & family who think I've gone off the deep end:

I'm not nuts. This page was really created as a joke for John R. Ohler and a way to post my favorite pics of the Odyssey. It's not even spell-checked. I do really like the knife, and hope to someday own one of the signature series beauties, but I probably won't just sit around and stare at it when I do. On the other hand, I won't open packages of frozen chicken with it, either! So, that's that!
