Colander Man is no longer just a song - I've turned it into an entire video game! The game is based on my song, and the theme of the game is go around killing enemies with spoons - I got that from the line that says "He fights the evil goons with his plastic spoons." You can listen to the song here or get the lyrics here.

On this page is a beta version of my game; I've finished most of the inner workings of the game, but have yet lots to add to the actual game playing experience - i.e. more weapons and enemies. Right now you can't even die - your health just goes into negative numbers. In the status panel, you'll see things like "livesLabel" and "aeroCape". Ignore these, they are for debugging purposes only. I have also not yet drawn a picture of Colander Man jumping - he just runs when he jumps. The game is playable, however. Try it out and give me suggestions on what kinds of enemies and stuff I should put in the game.

Colander Man will only work if your browser has a Java 1.1 or higher VM. Most 4.0+ browsers have this capability. A JIT compiler will also help, and I know that Internet Explorer 4.0+ comes with a very efficent one. Also, some browsers will play the music in the game, and others will not. I know that IE 4.0 does not.

The game controls are simple - use the arrow keys to move, the space bar to jump, and the 8 keys surrounding the "s" key to throw spoons. You must collect spoons before you throw them, and your total number of spoons will be shown in the top left corner of the status panel at the bottom of the game. Press the shift key and a "spoon" key to throw a super spoon - worth five regular spoons. You collect super spoons just like regular spoons - super spoons are silver, normal spoons are orange.

There are two enemies (so far) in the game - one (as of yet unnamed) that has twirly arms and one called The Blob. Guess which is which. The twirly one throws something at you (I'm not sure what it is yet) and The Blob chases you. The Blob will also eat anything in its path - including items and enemies.

If you encounter a door, press up to go inside it. If nothing happens, then that is the door at the end of the level. Colander Man will eventually do a dance, but he doesn't do one yet. Press any key to go back to the title screen. Pressing up when you're touching an exclamation mark will give you a hint about the game.

And so, here it is, in beta form: Colander Man! (Note: you may not see a title screen, it doesn't always redraw itself. Simply press any key to start the game.)
