The Code of Bushido

These are my Seven tenets of Bushido.

1- Loyalty.
Undying loyalty to your lord and master. If you have no master, you are Ronin, this does not apply to you. Never betray your lord. Always obey your lord. Always do as he says. To betray your lord is to dishonor yourself. Honor can only be regained by seppuku.

2. Respect
Show respect to all your superiors. Respect all your foes. To not respect them is to underestimate them, and that is a fool's mistake of warfare and of life. Show great respect to those foes who have fought you well. Show modesty. Arrogance is another fool's mistake, which leads to defeat and suffering.

3. Nobility
Show valour, courage and bravery in battle and during hardships. Cowardice is dishonorable. Be ready to defend yourself at any time, and be ready to serve your lord at any time. Stay calm, and maintain self control at all times. Anger is a mind pollutant.

4. Righteousness
Be sincere and straightforward. Keep a strong sense of justice and fairness. If you do not have an ethical code, try to learn one.

5. Simplicity
Stay simple and pure. Do not pollute your body with that which is unnatural. Your body is as a sword, care for it and it shall remain strong and sharp, neglect it and it will break when needed most. Do not over-indulge in luxury. Luxury overclouds the mind.

6. Martial Skill
Pursue excellence in the martial arts. Learn the way of the sword, the bow, and the fist. Use this skill to serve your lord. Do not use this power to hound over the weaker.

7. Spirit
Do not serve your lord for selfish reasons. Respect your ancestors, they are wise. Respect spirits, be kind to them and they will be kind to you.
