Personally, I've always loved Sailor Moon, but until I really got into the show, I had no idea WHAT was going on, other than a bunch of girls fighting an evil bunch of girls. Most of you probably already know the big story, but if you don't, here it is:
Sailor Moon, and her adventures with the rest of the Sailor Scouts really BEGIN in the future (still following?). The evil forces of the Negaverse have been outlawed, and are living on a desolate moon at the edge of the solar system. However, the Negaverse can't stay away for long, and they soon launch a massive attack, intending to wipe out ALL of earth, and they nearly succeed. Queen Serenity (she'll be explained later) is frozen in crystal, and all of earth and Crystal Tokyo are destroyed, except for Queen Serenity, Prince Endymion, and the Sailor Scouts, who form a beam of energy to protect the Queen. Meanwhile, one little girl is sent back to the past to help save the world, and more importantly, her mother.
Rini arrives in past Tokyo, and goes to live with the Sailor Scouts of the past, however she has no memory of what happens in the future, only the instinct that she has to save her mother. The forces of the Negaverse are unable to destroy the Crystal Tokyo of the future, so they begin going to the past to destroy it there. It is at this time that the Sailor Scouts begin the fight the evil forces.
This goes on, until things become very bad. Rini, or Little Lady learns to use the Time Key she was given in the future and uses it to transport her, the Sailor Scouts, and Tuxedo Mask into the future to save her mother. Once in Crystal Tokyo, they meet with Prince Endymion, who they find out is the future Tuxedo Mask/Darien. He tells them that he is married to Queen Serenity who is the future Sailor Moon! Even more surprising: Rini is really Serena, their daughter!!!! The past Sailor Scouts go to work, trying to defeat what forces of the Negaverse are left. They are so busy doing this, Rini is captured and turned into Dark Lady, an untimate evil of the Negaverse. She travels back to the past to set up a weapon to destroy the earth. So, the Scouts of the past go back to THEIR home to battle their own sister. Using love and trust they win her back, and to make a long story short, the earth is saved. In the future, Queen Serenity awakens, Prince Endymion is healed of his cripling injuries from battling the Negaverse, and the Sailor Scouts from the past go back to the past.
The American series is produced by DIC, and unfortunately, only one series was made, instead of the multiple ones in Japanese.
