After four weeks of regular season competition, Fox has lost 7% of its adults 18-49 viewers and 9% of its 18-34 viewers. Its only growth is a 2% increase among the 55 and older crowd that Fox has never really wanted. So far, none of Fox's new shows has caught on this season. Fox is praying that the return of ``The X-Files,'' whose premiere was delayed because of the feature film schedule, will boost the ratings once again.
On a related topic Chris Carter is developing yet another series called Harsh Realm. It is acomic-book-based sci-fi drama scheduled to debut on Fox in the fall of 1999. It is rumored to be replacing the ever ratings failing Millennium next fall.
"Chris has created a true brand name that enlivens every sector of this company," Peter Chernin, chairman and CEO of Fox group and president and COO of News Corp. "From the small screen and silver screen to home video, retail shelves, and beyond, The X-Files is a cultural phenomenon that we have proudly and successfully exploited throughout the global marketplace." The paranormal series, which is entering its sixth season, remains the highest-rated show on Fox.
Chris Carter has has inked an exclusive multimillion-dollar,
multiyear development and production deal with 20th Century Fox.
The pact, which reportedly will last about five years, is worth between
$25 million and $30 million, making Carter one of the highest paid writer-producers
in Hollywood.
While the French premiere accounted for most of the picture's $5 million weekend business, it also scared up $83,933 in Hungary. The picture's foreign total beamed to $79.6 million, which is close to eclipsing the domestic tally of only $83.4 million and looks a safe bet to pass $100 million after next week's opening in Italy, followed by a December debut in Japan.
Chris Carter announces that there's definitely a sequel to The X-Files: Fight the Future in the works. The second installment will go into production next summer with release planned for the following summer. The famously prickly co-stars have reportedly already agreed to star in the sequel, but there's no word on how much they'll receive to don their trench coats and designer duds for Part II. Each received an estimated $4 million for Fight the Future.
Fight the Future is holding steady in the video
rental market remaining in the top ten since the release on October 13th.
FTF is reportedly #2 in the nation this past week in video rentals and
#1 in Texas.
