I personally have been looking into importing a Falcon XB coupe, yet if you decide to do the same lets keep in touch. A few things to remember if your serious like I am: Unless youre prepared to shell out many thousands of dollars dont even attempt it. The main things are contacting a shipping company that specializes in importing cars FROM Australia, because this company will therefore have an office in Aus. This same company will also set you up with a customhouse broker that specializes in foreign cars. Already youre looking at $2,000 to $3,000., but getting a broker contact in Aus will save you the money and trip to Aus to buy it yourself. Another $2,000. approx if you go. Includes air fare, hotel, taxi, food, etc, etc. Now that you ve arranged for its transport and payment to the current owner, you have to find one. Less than 1,000 were made between 73 and 76, I assume its the XB and not the XC or XA were talking about, so they are scarce. Try Australias Trading Post on the web and look under different headings, i.e. GT coupe, Falcon XB etc. Now call the owner, remember the time zone difference, and let him know your intentions. Next let your shipper and broker know all about it, because theyre the ones who have to go pick it up and deal with the Aus DMV as well as put it on a ship. Before you settle on a car make sure that it is only either a 73 or a 74, reason being that in order to import anything newer the U.S. DOT will make you spend $$$$thousands on 5mph bumpers and U.S. specification sheetmetal. After the year 2000 you may import a 75, and so on. Also the EPA takes interest in the same way in regards to the mufflers, catalytec converter and addition of smog equipment. Last, but not least you have to pay the U.S. Customs Service a percentage (a small one) of the price of the car, prove its year and/or compliance to ward off EPA and DOT. Now heres the GOOD news, the monetary exchange rate from U.S. Dollars to AUS Dollars works in OUR benefit and is almost half! Heres an example: 1974 Ford Falcon XB GT Coupe $6,000. exclnt condition.......for us that means only having to spend about $3,000. on the price of the car! Other things to remember, PARTS, PARTS, PARTS. Since this car was never imported to the United States and is exclusive to Aus, all your replacement parts have to come from Aus. The Falcon GT Garage in Aus can help, ask for Vinny. Then there is the little matter of the INTERCEPTOR modifications! I assume youre doing this, talk wth Gordon Hayes about the roof spoiler and Monza nose cone, the trunk lid spoiler you will have to order from Ford of Aus. as a replacement part. Well I dont know how far you are in the MAD quest, I was just browzing your site and I thought as another like minded American I could help out. Anyway, goodluck and forget that crap about a Torino or Maverick imitation, go for the real thing. Its a small and exclusive club in this country I believe there are less than 5 in the states.
