Welcome To My Family Tree

Time to update my pages again! Everything is still in the same basic order and format; it's mainly just this first page that has been changed a bit. My pages are divided into pedigree charts (example) and family group sheets (example). Thanks to Elaine for the codes for the pedigree and family charts from her site.

Some people are really good at listing sources on their web pages. I'm not. I'd like to, but I just haven't had the time to do it yet (full-time job, 2 small children, etc.) So, if you are interested in knowing where I found some of my data, just ask. I'll do my best to get back to you.

Some of the information on my pages (especially the really old stuff) came from research peformed by other genealogists that I've gathered from internet sites and books. Therefore, I don't know how accurate it is. I know...how irresponsible since I could be making the problem worse. But even bad data gives you a place to look sometimes, so I'm including it anyway. Having said that, I'm sure there is some wrong information on my site and you are welcome and encouraged to write me and let me know.

I also have many pictures and obituaries online as well.

Now to the good stuff. My Pedigree...starting with me.

Index of Photographs

I have been very lucky in that I have inherited many, many family pictures from my maternal grandparents. I am glad that my family has allowed me to keep these as the family genealogist. I am in the process of making negatives of all of them and carefully archiving the originals. The copies I am putting in a Heritage Album (scrapbooking is my other obsessive hobby). I am also slowly getting all the pictures on-line. An index of pictures I have on-line so far is now available.

Maybe if I get really ambitious someday, I'll put scans of my Heritage Album on-line. I have also finished an album covering my Grandpa's time with the Navy during WWII. This was a very fun album to work on and I have learned a lot about the Pacific fleet during WWII.

Index of Obituaries

My great-grandma saved a lot of obituaries of family and friends. When her daughter (my grandma) died, I was the receipient of the ledger that held all the obituaries. I have transcribed all of them (whew!) and they are online. You can find them on the Lincoln Co., MO genweb site.

I also have family obituaries, which are transcribed on-line,listed here.

My Favorite Genealogy Links

The internet is a great way to do genealogy research. I have found a lot of information on some of my lines in my tree. I have found sites that include my lines back into the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries! How reliable is this data? I don't know. But it is fun to find and I will try to put it on my web pages, or link to the original sites. My favorite genealogy links are here.

I support my living relatives' right to privacy!

The National Genealogical Society has issued their standards on placing family information on web sites. Basically what they say (and I agree with) is that if someone is still alive, do not put their information on the web. Some people actually include birth dates of living people on their web sites! If someone is still living, I will only put "female" or "male" for their information. Also, don't ask me for this information...I won't give it to you.

Do you have a suggestion on how I can improve these pages? I feel like I'm constantly changing them and updating them so they are easier to use. Please mail me your comments and suggestions.

Do you recognize anyone on my tree? If so write me!
