Intelligence Department

Starfleet Intelligence has assigned personnel to Starbase T'Plana-Hath to coordinate and compile incoming reports from field agents within the areas patrolled by Thunder Fleet. Intel reports are collected, analyzed, and reported to the Fleet Commanding Officer, who then can consult with Starfleet Command and the Joint Chiefs, and take any action his fleet is required to in order to address any threats to Starfleet or the Federation. There is a popular notion among many that Intel personnel are somehow 'above the law', and have better technology than any other starfleet department. While Starfleet Intelligence does, out of necessity, keep information very closely guarded, and have some access to the latest in cutting edge technology, they have their own rules they too must follow, and must answer to the same authority as any other department. Positions include Chief Intelligence Officer, who oversees the Intel Department and is responsible for assigning field ops to assess any suspected threats, Intelligence Officers, who assist in the compilation and assessment of reports from the field, and specialist positions such as Field Officers, who go out and do the so-called 'dirty work' of gathering information, surveillance, infiltration, and even occasionally sabotage or otherwise provide 'threat neutralization'.

These missions can include Search and Rescue, Reconnaisance, Threat Neutralization, Target Retrieval, and Security Detail, among others. Starfleet Marines train to handle extreme situations, most often areas of hostility where combat is to be expected. Ambassadorial Delgates

As part of an attempt to bolster diplomatic relations with the Klingons and the Romulans both, Starfleet has been at the forefront of a project involving, by necessity, both parties. After the incident involving Praetor Shinzon's regime, the Federation found they had the opportunity to create a greater dialogue with the Romulan Empire. During concurrent ongoing talks with the Klingon Empire, the Klingons began to make an issue of these increased ties to the Romulan Empire. The talks became unstable on both fronts for a brief period, until a compromise was reached that was seen as mutually acceptable...at least as mutually acceptable as possible. Each government would select a starbase to host one ambassador from each other's governments. So, in point of fact, the project is actually three projects; one in Federation territory, one in Klingon territory, and one in Romulan territory. Each base hosts one ambassador from all three governments, and a small security force as well. The Security Forces were ultimately a concession that all sides had to accept in order to see the project go forward, due to the lack of trust between the three. T'Plana-Hath hosts a Klingon Ambassador, and small strike force of 12 Klingon Marines and a cloak-equipped Bird of Prey; A Romulan Ambassador and 12 Romulan troops who are the equivalent of marines as well, who also insisted upon the inclusion of a cloak capable vessel; and a Federation ambassador and his honor guard, a group of 12 Starfleet Security Officers assigned to keep watch on the other two groups. Each group eyes each other with suspiscion, and "misunderstandings" are quite common.
