Born in the 12th century AD in the ancient Indian tribe known as Cahokia in southern Illinois, Kol T'ek served as their "hayoka" holy man. His responsibility was to protect his people by taking evil into himself through a mystical process. Eventally his tribe died off due to wars or famine and he was left to travel the world by himself. Kol T'ek then became "hayoka" to the world, helping good men by taking their evil into himself or killing evil Immortals to gain their Quickenings. In 1958 Kol T'ek killed the Immortal Bryce Korland and after receiving the Quickening he realized that there was a limit to the evil he could contain, so he ceased killing Immortals for his own safety. In 1996, he was forced to kill the evil Immortal Horvan Kant in order to save the life of a store owner in Seacouver. Kant's evil Quickening finally pushed Kol T'ek over the edge and he was overwhelmed by the evil inside of him which became a "Dark Quickening". Kol T'ek became evil, driven by the madness of all the evil Immortals he had killed over the centuries. Kol T'ek's friend Duncan MacLeod, whom he helped in 1872 after the Lakota tribe was massacred, was forced to kill the evil Kol T'ek. Duncan was also overwhelmed by the Dark Quickening for a short time.
