Ostensibly a former district attorney disbarred for physically attacking a judge for leniency, Bookthrower was discovered by an old friend, Miranda Wright, who became his manager. He sees himself as the law and order of the AWI, and hands out "sentencing" with his Instrument of Justice.
Exploits: Inaugural AWI World Champion ... lost title to Talsay ... feuded briefly with International Players ... "divorced" and physically attacked Miranda Wright, revealing relations to her sister Melissa.
The combination of "Gunslinger" Glenn Turner and T.C. Jurgens recently arrived in the AWI, apparently intent on bringing the various rulebreakers of the fed to justice. They both dress as Old West cowboys, with a duster, gaucho hat, holster belt, and sixguns. They carry "Wanted" posters of their opponents, which they give to kids at ringside along with a tin badge.
Exploits: Became involved with the Syndicate quickly after debut ... Jurgens became unstable after a series of losses ... After departure from AWI, Jurgens made appearences in Atlantic Wrestling Association.
The son of Stan Jurgens and godson of rulebreaker Thomas Carr, everybody wonders where T.C. went wrong (or right, as the case may be). His father can only shake his head.
Managed by the Plague Dog. Bachman is easily explained: he just doesn't give up. Once his mind is set on something, whether it's breakfast or the world title, he doesn't stop until he's got it. More than one opponent has been driven to distraction by his ceaseless pursuit in the ring.
Exploits: Feuded with Lord Thomas Imperious ... briefly held World TV title ... won the light heavyweight title from Dan Lea, and defended it to a 40 minute no-decision against the FWA's LHW champion, "All Natural" Kris Simmons.
The tag team of Waylon Templar and Isaiah O'Brien, along with "Sister" Mara Machismo, who manages them, come to the AWI in the hopes of once again bringing true Christian role models to professional wrestling. They want to succeed through true wrestling skill and will power. They are very clean-cut, but won't evangelize on TV, saving it for houseshows and for those who ask for it.
O'Brien's the fast member of the team, and is amazingly agile. He never speaks on camera.
Templar's the powerhouse. He is also married to Mara.
The newest protege of the Jade Tiger, a former martial artist mega-heel, Crystal Crow is a newcomer to North American wrestling, having garnered most of his experience in the Orient; his youth and inexperience with the Western style of wrestling means he's still learning. Fortunately, he has the Jade Tiger.
Exploits: Won North American title from Jack Fury ... lost title to Jerry Straite.
A medical doctor, Hyde is primarily a technical wrestler -- until such times as he feels that he has been unfairly treated or so forth, at which point he snaps. Not your normal loss of temper, this is a full scale dual personality! Dr. Hyde unhinged is as violent and brutal as his normal persona is cultured and contemplative; strangely enough, the fans seem to like him all the more for his peculiarities. He is managed by the Plague Dog.
Dream Succubus stormed into the AWI Women's division at the 1996 Long, Hot Summer, claiming to be the most successful women's tag team in Japanese history, and declaring themselves default AWI Women's Tag Champions. The resultant demand for shots at the team resulted in the creation of the titles ... which Dream Succubus failed to capture. This has dimmed neither their competitive fire nor their arrogance.
Exploits: Interfered in Dacia Blackthorne/ Tiger Z title match at The Long Hot Summer ... feuded with Dacia Blackthorne and Susan O'Malley ... attacked Angela Dante prior to scheduled mixed tag match between Crystal Crow and Steve the Insane, severely injuring her.
The ultimate party girl, the Fallen Angel has spent most of her career wrestling in Japan. She was originally a pure brawler, but achieved much greater success when she added aerial moves to her arsenal. When offered a shot at the AWI, she jumped at the chance to come back home.
Exploits: Severely injured during matches with Melissa Wright and Tori Johanssen ... recovered in time to defeat Tiger Z for Women's Title.
Jack McDonnell fell in love with wrestling as a kid, vowing to be one day mentioned in the same breath as great champions of all time. He was an NCAA Academic All-American while he wrestled at Indiana University, winning 3 Big Ten Wrestling Titles and an NCAA title. McDonnell entered professional ranks in the UWA as "Jack Fury," representing his short temper and propensity for intense anger.
Exploits: Feuded with Gary White over North American championship ... defeated White at Long, Hot Summer for the belt, but title was held up after White pointed out that Fury won by pinfall, not submission as the match stipulated ... won the title at Union 2 by defeating White in a best of three falls rematch ... lost title to and suffered serious injuries from the Crystal Crow ... redebuted after extended absence by attacking Greg Gardner.
A talented amatuer wrestling champion with some aerial skills, Gayle was nicknamed 'Blue Ribbon' because of all the winning she did. She decided that, having conquered all the worlds available to her at home, it was time to move on to the big city, and the AWI.
The manager of the Crystal Crow, the Jade Tiger appears to be an old-style martial arts master. Any actual martial artist, though, would be utterly repulsed by his arrogance and savagery, not to mention the skill with which he swings his Kendo stick at the Crow's opponents. The Tiger holds many archaic viewpoints. He reviles the North American way of life, and considers women sub-human. This has caused several run-ins with Angela Dante and her boyfriend, Steve the Insane. The Tiger himself has also started to compete. The wisdom of giving Steve the Insane that kind of opportunity has yet to be explored.
Exploits: Repeatedly harassed Angela Dante as a symbol of "improper" behavior in Western women ... triggered feud with Dante's beau Steve the Insane ... placed $25,000 bounty on Steve the Insane.
Outside the ring, Eric is high strung and jumpy, rarely standing still long enough to do an interview, unless he has been angered by somebody. He always wants to be inside the ring, which is where his true personality can be displayed. Eric has a BS degree in Animal Science, and he specialized in Raptors (birds of prey). However, he became quite interested in the plight of the California Condor soon after graduating, and has been involved in the effort to save them ever since. He was an accomplished amateur wrestler in college, and has since opted on a career change from the science field to the world of professional wrestling. He chose the ring name "The Condor" because of his love for the big birds, but his ring actions make him resemble the raptors he studied in college more closely.
Exploits: Feuded with Chris Revi, culminating in win of no-disqualification "falls count anywhere" match at Ultimatum II.
Lea is obsessed with strength. He believed himself to be the strongest man in the AWI, and he's very close to being right. Anybody who isn't as "ripped" as he is is unworthy of his attention, other than being beat on. Nothing infuriates him more than being "jipped" out of a win by such a lesser foe.
Exploits: Debuted as member of Rooks Enterprises ... interfered on behalf of the Mist Angel to cause loss of Danny Boy McGill's Light Heavyweight championship ... later won the same title from the Mist Angel ... lost title to Bryan Bachman ... began active interfederational wrestling, feuding with, defeating, and then allying himself with the USeW's El Maestro ... competed in the EWF's Tiger Mask Invitational and the USeW's Ultimate Battlebirth ... USeW championship committee asked Dan to fill in when a challenger to 'the Devastator' Deric Machismo's USeW World Title dropped out of the match; Dan accepted the match, and won the title, but lost it back to Machismo the next night ... now wrestling full-time in USeW.
Dr. Lupo appears to be the front man for a shadowy organization known only as the Syndicate. He is very close-mouthed about the Syndicate's goals, but whatever they are, they're willing to provide Lupo with reams of cash to pay for it. As a result, Lupo has managed some of the top talent in the AWI, including the World Tag Team champions, Intensive Care, and former World Champion John Robertson.
Megaton is a pair of vile and despicable individuals who cut a path of destruction through the AWI tag team ranks to become the champs. With their manager, Vinnie the Mouth, they formed one of the most hated trios in wrestling -- and liked it that way. These three all get along because they share a enjoyment of chaos, mayhem, and destruction as only a megaton of high explosives can produce.
Exploits: Defeated Super Titans to become inaugural World Tag Team champions ... opened "Megacademy", ostensibly a wrestling school headed by Vinnie the Mouth ... lost titles to Warbirds in four team "Square Dance" match.
Laid back, cheerful and friendly, Carlos grew up watching both his family involved in bull-fighting, and tapes of American wrestling. Deciding to give up the family business, he learned to wrestle when he moved to Mexico, and became very popular in the "underground" wrestling circuit. Once he learned the art of scientific wrestling, he moved to America, and the AWI, and hopes for equal success.
Exploits: Formed "International Players" with Chris Sim.
The Mississippi Kid is one of the youngest members of the so-called 'Mississippi Mob', the group of wrestlers who come from the inner circle of the Mississippi Wrestling Association. He's gained a lot of experience in his 20 years, but not much patience. His aerial skills match his 'leap-before-you-think' attitude. Wrestles in a tag team with Riverboat.
Exploits: Defeated Bryan Bachman to become Light Heavyweight champion.
The Mississippi Queen is the only daughter of the family that makes up the inner circle of the Mississippi Wrestling Association. This resulted in a highly polished technician, and a woman who has been successful in many ventures, from business to managing in the FWA. She's determined and confident, and has the skills to back it up.
Born to a native of the Isle of Wight and an oriental, the Mist Angel is very learned in Welsh and Gaelic lore, in addition to a martial arts background. His emblem is the legendary Mist Dragon. The Mist Angel's wrestling past is as clouded in mystery as his island homeland itself.
Exploits: Briefly held Light Heavyweight championship, winning it from Danny Boy McGill, then losing it to Dan Lea.
Formerly a body-builder, O'Malley gave that up to pursue wrestling at the advice of her good friend, Dacia Blackthorne. After a short stint in the U.S., she headed to Japan to refine her skills. Now, she's a powerful and skilled athlete who's come to the AWI to give her friend a hand in her feuds.
Exploits: Feuded with both Dream Succubus and Sara Victory.
This Austrian duo was disgusted by American arrogance and need to feel supreme in all things ... so they came to the AWI to replace that with Austrian arrogance and need to feel supreme in all things. They accomplished this with a brutal and destructive power/brawling style. For their intentions to take on Americans, they spent much of their time dueling with the International Players; they also wrestled individually.
Jen Peters is an incredibly agile young woman with an almost exclusively high-flying wrestling style. Peters was a regular "feature" on AWI telecasts -- as one of the fed's premiere preliminary wrestlers. Everybody knew who she was, nobody ever expected her to win. This continued until the veteran, Kelly Tucker, took notice of her; she started training the Spitfire, and revealed Peters as her partner in the Women's Tag Title tournaments, where the duo managed to go to the finals.
Piersall came to wrestling from a job as a stuntman, his most notable work being Chris Reeve's double in the Superman movies. He gave up the illusion to try a different challenge, in the ring. He became WWA champion after a couple of years, but was later seriously injured in a cage match against the first AWE champion, the Enforcer. His neck has now healed enough for him to make a return to the AWI, and he hopes now to meet, and beat, all challenges. Unfortunately, his clean-cut personality seems to make him a magnet for rulebreaker attacks.
Won World Television Championship from D. A. Bookthrower ... drew the ire of Reverend Jeremiah James, who took the belt as the first step in a series of brutal assaults ... with Greg Gardner, held "intervention" with the increasingly unstable Justice ... departed AWI after brutal loss to Scott Bradley.
Quite probably the most unlikely individual to ever be issued a manager's license. A former champion in two different minor federations, he was crippled during a stint in the EWC. Rather than giving up the sport, he became a manager, signing such top talent as Dr. Hyde and "Bulldog" Bryan Bachman.
The Iceman, originally a wrestler in the IeWF, came to the AWI when 'discovered' by Robbie Stevens. Unfortunately, Robbie decided that he should also manage Revi. So, the "coolest man in wrestling" came, and has left battered bodies in his wake. A fearless high-flyer, Revi rarely shows emotion, and never speaks.
Exploits: Feuded intensely with "Condor" Eric King, culminating in loss during "falls count anywhere, no disqualifications" match at Ultimatum II ... dropped Robbie as manager after saying only words to date ("Shut up") ... returned as a mystery entrant in the '97 Spring Stampede.
John Robertson debuted as the golden boy of Allied Wrestling, fascinated with the glamor of the wrestling world, and equipped with extensive amateur wrestling talent and a variety of impressive techniques (including a tilt-a-whirl slam/cradle suplex finishing combo). Unfortunately, he wasn't as well-equipped to handle dealings outside the ring; his confidence gradually slipped into arrogance, and his values were worn away by frustrating losses.
Exploits: Held strong rivalry with Danny Boy McGill over Light Heavyweight title ... formed Alliance for Order with McGill ... betrayed AFO to join the Syndicate ... finally defeated McGill, this time to win the World Championship ... ducked mandated title bout with Long, Hot Summer winner Greg Gardner with help of masked wrestler "Ballista" ... vacated World Championship, citing "lack of competition", and moved to Atlantic Wrestling Association ... now wrestling in Premier.
Rooks is a smooth-talking, fluent individual, with a penchant for long words and flowery phrases. This does little to hide his scurrilous and backstabbing nature. He has a way of finding the most contemptible talent in wrestling, and bringing them to AWI to infuriate fans and foes alike. Despite bad luck in the feuds this has created, Rooks was easily one of the most hated men in the AWI, until the recent diaspora of Rooks Enterprises personnel to other federations.
A member of the Showtime wrestling family, Rictor hasn't had the same success as his brother, Roker. Generally in a tag team with his other brother, Riker, Showtime wrestled in the EWF and EWC. He came to the AWI both to try to stand on his own, and to be closer to his girlfriend and manager ... the sinister Tamara. Showtime quickly proved the equal of Tamara in ego and lack of morality.
Exploits: Disqualified from Long, Hot Summer tournament due to Tamara's actions ... DDT'd commissioner Daki Chamberlain repeatedly, claiming a right due to a "DDT clause" ostensibly in his match contract ... suspended by Stan Jurgens until he fulfilled three unpaid open contracts ... feuded briefly with Mike Piersall ... made an open "loser leave town" challenge in a fit of pique over Piersall's refusal to grant him further matches, and lost to Danny Boy McGill.
A young high-flyer from Canada, Chris Sim has been a spectacular addition to the AWI. With just a touch of attitude, Sim hasn't had much of a chance to act arrogantly, as he's been targetted by a multitude of rule-breakers as someone to build a reputation on.
Exploits: Formed "International Players" with Carlos Mendoza ... fought Bryan Bachman to a draw in 30 minute "Iron Man" match ... now wrestling in EWC.
The original ladies' man, Jimmy's a former boxer, who took up wrestling as a sideline when that went sour. He moved to America, and the UAWF, and recently jumped to the AWI. While friendly with the fans, Jimmy's a tough customer, and his European Uppercut finish is devastating, all the more so because it is so unexpected.
Exploits: Won Television Title from Steve the Insane ... lost title to D.A. Bookthrower.
Tamara is the manager of the rulebreaking Toxic Twins. Tamara is not a complex person; her goals are pretty straight-forward: to get as many belts and as much money as possible. She adopts the same casually snide egotism as her two charges (thought with considerably less volume and/or profanity).
Exploits: Former commissioner of USeW.
Kitty Taylor is a former EWWA and interfed champion. Coming back to wrestling after four years, she's chosen the AWI to make her return, and expects to make a huge splash. She's business-like at all times, and very ring-savvy.
The Toxic Twins are two of the roughest, toughest rumblers in the industry, and innovators in the "we kick ass and are too damn cool to care" school of wrestling -- just ask them, they'll tell you all about it. Conventional wisdom would say instead that they're masters of cheating, brutality, and double-team tactics; their over-violent, self-important attitudes have made them one of the most hated teams in the AWI, even if it hasn't done much for their rankings.
Exploits: Fought the Power Tools for the North American championship after the Crusaders vacated the title, and lost ... later fought Perfection in a "Walk Away Happy" cage bout mandated by then-commissioner Stan Jurgens when the Power Tools vacated the same title, and lost.
"The Philosopher" has taken up the old adage, "If you can't beat them, join them", and has taken it to the extreme. Tzskova believes that violence is an unacceptable way of life, and has taken it upon himself to show that to all the people of the world -- he's decided to beat it into people, to show them that the only thing that can come from violence is pain.
Exploits: Broke preliminary wrestler Kieth Matthew's leg in debut ... seriously injured Carlos Mendoza ... drew heavy fines for these tactics ... allied himself with Reverend Jeremiah James ... teamed with James during third North American Tag Team championship tournament ... claimed responsibility, with James, for Justice's fall into despair, calling it "his lessons" ... currently wrestling in EWC.
Herr Verhoeven saw himself as representing Germany to he AWI, here to prove the superiority of German athletes in the world of sports and in all other endeavors ... given his brutal style and antagonistic nature, perhaps Germany would have preferred to go unrepresented. Verhoeven was accompanied to the ring by his fiancee, 'Nurse'Heidi Uppenmann.
Sara Williams was a fitness trainer and maritial arts instructor who decided to enter wrestling for the glory. She will do anything to reach the top of the wrestling game, including wrestling singles, tag, or acting as a manager or valet for a male contender.
Exploits: Aided Melissa Wright in harassing Dacia Blackthorne and Susan O'Malley ... claimed to be romantically linked with Robbie Stevens ... won Women's Title from Fallen Angel with the aid of concealed nunchucks ... departed the AWI due to contractual disputes.
"Little" Vincent is Dr. Lupo's bodyguard, and apparently belongs to the same shady organization as Lupo. He will accompany Lupo to all AWI functions, and occasionally enter the ring himself. Whatever he's doing, he's all business, demolishing those who stand in Lupo's way with frightening efficiency. He's recently taken a less active athletic role.
Think of those guys at football games who are loud and obnoxious -- you know, the ones who are always screaming insults at the other team, the referees, the other side of the stadium. The guys who only get worse if they have a megaphone or siren. The guys who always seem to be in the seat right behind yours!! Well, your reaction to those guys are pretty much the reaction of everybody who ever meets, sees, or is in the same state with Vinnie the Mouth. The manager of Megaton is incredibly loud, painfully insulting, and damn tough to listen to for any length of time. When Robbie Stevens clocked Vinnie with his own "MEGA"-phone at Ultimatum 2, it was probably the only time Robbie ever got cheered in the AWI.
B-52 was originally a singles wrestler in many independent feds. However, he was constantly getting himself fired for hurting people. When suspended from one fed indefinitely, he met up with the Falcon, who pleaded his case, saying the B-52 had changed his wrestling tactics. The Falcon was given the task of making sure B-52 didn't get out of hand during his matches, and the two eventually became tag partners. The Falcon's wiseacre attitude caused the fans to quickly warm up to him, and has helped B-52 gain a following as a face.
Exploits: Won the World Tag titles from Megaton in a "Square Dance" match ... lost titles to Intensive Care.
Gary White was an amature wrestler in college and actually participated in, and won, a gold medal in wrestling in the 1992 Summer Olympics. His success has made him arrogant, though. Similar to the Ice skating fiasco, Gary white fell out of favor with USA olympic fans for his haughtiness and general obnoxious behavior. Gary White, looking for more fame and glory, became a professional wrestler, out to prove he is the best technical wrestler anywhere.
Exploits: Defeated Tatsu Fijimoto to become inaugural AWI World Television champion ... lost title in upset to Bryan Bachmann ... won North American title as last-minute entrant in Ultimatum 2 "mini-tournament", replacing Kerry Masters ... lost the belt to Jack Fury at Long, Hot Summer in a submission match, but title was held up when White pointed out that Fury pinned him, and did not make him submit ... lost again to Fury in a best-of-three rematch at Union II.
A self-centered loudmouth whose life motto seems to be "the squeaky wheel gets the grease", Jason Wrath feels he deserves everything he wants, simply because he wants it; he makes frequent, offensive diatribes whenever he can get an audience, throwing baseless accusations of cowardice and incompetence, and demands for matches, to any wrestler he thinks can get him more attention. Primarily a brawler, Wrath can also be a surprisingly able technician.
Exploits: Harassed Bryan Bachman for Light Heavyweight title matches ... fought Bachman and lost.
Called to the AWI by her sister, manager Miranda Wright, Melissa has already left an indelible mark on the memories of the (male) fans -- mostly because of her flamboyant style and total lack of anything resembling shame or scruples. However, she also appears to be a very competent wrestler, and could very soon be challenging for the Women's World title.
Exploits: Attacked Dacia Blackthorne during her title bout with Tiger Z ... feuded extensively Blackthorne and Susan O'Malley ... attacked her sister Miranda to announce lover D.A. Bookthrower's "divorce".
