In 1978 Universal Studios aired a new science fiction series called Battle Star Galactica. I was only 2 years old back then and therefore I saw Battlestar Galactica for the first time in 1983. It was the first scifi-series I ever saw (soon followed by Buck Rogers) and it's still IMHO the best I've ever seen.
The story:
The story begins in a star system, the Cyrannus system, where a human
race has been fighting a war against the Cylons for almost a thousand yarn
(= years). The Cylons are a mechanical race, created by a know extinct
alien race, to conquer the Galaxy. Even though the original creators are
gone, the Cylons continued their conquest. Know, a thousand yarn later,
the Cylons appear to be willing to negotiate for peace. But then, at the
peace conference, the Cylons strike without warning and destroy all of
the human colonies. The surviving humans flee for the Cylons in what ever
ship they can find, led by the only surviving Battlestar, the Galactica.
Their only hope is to find the last surviving human colony, only known
by ancient records, on the planet known as Earth.

Highly detailed scans of the Battlestar Gallactica!
I while back I found a Battlestar Gallactica boardgame at a fleamarket.
Although the game itself isn't very interesting, it has very nice picture
of the Battlestar Gallactica on it. Below are scans of the picture in various
sizes with various backgrounds. Now you can finally have good picture of
the Battlestar Gallactica to use as Windows background!
