The St. Augustine Saucer

3:15 PM - FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 1998

In the late afternoon as tourists were viewing the famous Bridge of Lions in historic St. Augustine, FL. a strange saucer-like aircraft was seen hovering in the distance over the Intercoastal Waterway.  There were apparently around twenty witnesses who came forward and at least five photographs were taken.  The saucer hovered for three minutes at approximately 1000 feet altitude and one-half mile south.  Then in a matter of seconds the saucer turned to an easterly direction and vanished over the Atlantic Ocean.  According to witnesses the object made no sound.

The following are excerpts of eyewitness accounts from the St. Augustine Record:

TD - Medina, OH - "We all thought it was some kind of hot air balloon.  It was just sitting there and all of a sudden it just shot off and disappeared."

BC - Atlanta, GA - "I saw a group of people looking up across the water and as I tried to see what they were looking at I saw an object flash across the sky."

RN - St. Augustine, FL - "It was saucer shaped with a dome on top.  I didn't hear any noise, but there was a lot of traffic noise behind us.  The color was a silver metallic, but not too shiny. There seemed to be a darker band around the middle."

DC - Jacksonville, FL - "I was skeptical of UFOs, not now."

A second photo turns up at a slightly different angle and distance.

 5:30 PM - Friday, December 11, 1998

This photo was supposedly taken in the early evening on Wednesday, November, 26, a day before the now famous St. Augustine sighting.  Mr. and Mrs. John Powell were driving along a deserted section of State Road 204 about 25 miles southwest of St. Augustine when they spotted this craft hovering just above a clearing in a pine forest.  Mr. Powell was able to take one picture before the object made a high pitched drone which caused him to retreat back to his car.  By the time he had turned around the saucer had disappeared over the horizon.

A luminescent UFO was photographed over the Atlantic ocean taken by Scott Fisher from his back porch.  The object hovered for a few minutes and then appeared to crash into the sea.
