So, what can I say about me? I'm a 30-something Gen X, with a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing. I live in Southern Arizona. In the "real world," I'm a marketing research analyst, which means I take the collective numbers from surveys and write reports explaining what the numbers mean. Doesn't sound exciting, but generally I enjoy it.
I love languages, and speak Russian (though it's getting rusty from disuse). I also have dabbled in other languages (including Gaelic, Slovak and Navajo), but don't really claim to know them. I love listening to languages I don't know, too. There is an undeniable power to speech, even if you don't understand the meaning of the words.
I'm an avid reader as well, and I love Science Fiction and Fantasy stories. (Look here to see what I'd recommend.) And, obviously, I'm a Highlander fan, though I've gone away from seeing it so much since it hasn't been on TV regularly. I'm not much for TV overall, but I appreciate things like Discovery Channel and History Channel, and I have a few shows I follow regularly. I'm a relatively recent convert to the Buffy/Angel following, but also regularly consume CSI (Grissom, woohoo! :D), Crocodile Hunter (don't ask :P), Enterprise, and Showtime's Jeremiah and QaF.
I was fairly recently introduced to the wonderfully inspirational art of bellydancing (see the links section for more on that). No, it's not stripping, no, it isn't necessarily sexual. (In fact, traditionally, women did not dance for men, nor vice versa.) It is a wonderfully freeing exercise, an expression in being feminine. I'm not necessarily good at it (still feel awkward with some things after a year and a half), but I really enjoy it, and it gets me out of the house to go to class. Thanks to Lady Vivianne MacWench for introducing me to this fine art (though I know it gives her yet someone else to talk to about it, so it's been a good trade-off for her too :P).
To a lot of people's surprise, I'm not Scottish (or even Celtic) myself. I really like Scotland, however, for some reason...it's not even just because of Highlander! (Happy past-life experience? Dunno.) I loved having the chance to go there, and would love to be able to go back someday.
Well, as if you couldn't have guessed, Guinevere is not my given name (which is, if you must know, Kelly). I was uncreative enough to take as a handle the name of a character in a story of mine, and it stuck. Guinevere is, however, a favored pet name of mine, and Whyte was taken from my (Scottish-ancestored) best friend. Guin is not the first nickname I've had, and probably won't be the last, but regardless of what I go by, my personality is all me. :) I've become rather fond of the nickname Guin, however, so I'm quite happy to go by the name around cyberspace.
That's it! Any questions? me.
