Northern Pacific's
Tacoma
Roundhouse
The heart and soul of a steam railroad was the roundhouse, and for me, that means the one in Tacoma Washington! From the time it and its contents scared me to serious crying (Dad just had to take me in there when I was way too young), until it was just an empty shell, I couldn't stay away! It smelled good, sounded good, and just had a special feel. Steam was gone by the time I was 8, but I still have great memories. I managed to take a few photos, but really I have to thank former NP engineer Tom (TC) Miller for most of the photos in my collection. He had the foresight to shoot lots of film, especially right near the end.
I will add to this as the stories and info on the pictures becomes available, so, for now, there are just thumbnails and links to larger images that should be a great help for restoring memories. There are also some color photos of the roundhouse in my NP Structures section
