A Bit About The Actress
Okay, this site is pretty much devoted to Bob, the character in the movie. Well, as it turns out, a little bee had to play Bob. Thanks to a tip from a friend on the X Files Fan Forum, I found a bit about the actress that played Bob. (Maybe I should begin referring to him/her as Bobbette or Bobina or something!).
As it turns out, when bees are under lights, they tend to fly more than they walk. (Bet all you bee experts already knew that, huh??) But our little Bob had to crawl across the jacket that Scully was wearing...several times for the different takes. Dr. Norman Gary was the "bee wrangler" called in to work with the bees. In short, he developed a pheronome attractant that could help control the bee's behavior, chose a bee that walked more than it flew, and tested it under an environment much like the one that the scene was 'bee'ing shot under. He put some of the attractant on the jacket that Gillian was wearing, and, wallah, the little bee that played Bob did her job and the scene was great!
