Paladin advancement guide
this will happen to you if you dont advance right :-P
This guide is only a suggestion for newly recruited paladins. More experienced players grow to have certain preferences and individualities about the way they advance and max out. There is not a 'perfect way' to advance. It all depends on how you want your character to be like in the end.
Do you want your Circle of Power to work as often as possible? or do you prefer your Punishment of Severan? Do you want to use the Wrath of Severan spell? The answers to these questions will determine roughly the way you will advance in the future
This guide will help you as much as a mere webpage can in starting and maxing a well advanced paladin
Great effort will be given for this page to stay updated for as much time as possible. If you have any corrections, suggestions to make please email me.
To join the paladins, you will have to belong to the human race or be one of the remaining half-elves.
Here is a suggestion of stats to begin with. Rearranging can be a very boring and time consuming process, often taking hours, but it's worth the trouble. The order of importance for a paladin's stats is strength, wisdom, constitution, dexterity, intelligence.
Your strength should range from 18(80) to 18(00). You will have to bring it to 18(00) sooner or later anyway. Your wisdom can be from 18(20) to 18(70). The higher the better of course. You constitution will determine how much hps you will be walking with in the future. This can range from 12 to 18. Though 16 is quite decent. Dexterity helps with charge and even if it's not that important, some extra dexterity points always come in handy. I'd try to get more than 10, the higher than that always welcome.
Keep in mind that while you grow, you will be able to go on quests that will help you raise your stats. There are 3 of those quests currently, for one stat point each.
So, summarizing, here are the stat ranges you should be aiming for.
Strength 18(80)-18(00)
Wisdom 18(20)-18(70)
Constitution 12-18
Dexterity 8-18
Having rearranged you will have to go join the newbie guild. It's south from Lirath on your first east exit. Ask anyone to guide you there.
In the newbie guild, you will have to max your fighting and faith skills.
You might want to max general too.
Xp costs on levels there are lower than in a real guild. So, some will get 2mil xp in the newbie guild first and fully powerup their avengers upon joining the paladins.
After finishing your job in the newbie guild, come and join the paladins. The guild is ne,2n from the south gate of the city of Treeth.
In the paladin guild, start like this.
advance fi.combat to 10
advance fi.com.melee to 15
advance fi.com.me.sharp to 100 (to be able to actually do some damage with your swords)
If your avenger is not fully powered up yet. Do it now, it costs about 2 mil xp.
Now you need to get lay hands, so you will start working on faith.
The level you get lay hands depends on your wisdom and overall faith level, so there's not really a particular level of faith for everyone to get it. Be patient.
advance fai.spells to 10
advance fai.sp.defensive to 15
advance fai.sp.def.self to 200
When you have lay hands, learn the holding option
Now that your fa.s.d.s is maxed, you need to start working on your skills under fa.s.offensive and fa.s.misc
about offensive...
Max fa.s.o.t (this will help your Wrath of Severan spell do some damage and hit 4 times more often)
Remember! : You dont have to even touch offensive at all. If you decide that wrath is not worth trying for, dont advance fa.s.o.t at all. Your skill in fa.s.o.t will give you more damage for this spell but will not give you more chances to hit with all 4 attacks with it. It's always random.
about misc...
There are many different ways you can advance your misc skills here, depending on which ability of yours you want to put more emphasis upon.
a. misc.target will improve your Punishment of Severan spell. Keep in mind though, that you might get the maximum effectiveness of this spell anyway, without overmaxing misc.target. Wisdom helps here a great deal too.
b. misc.self used to be the most popular skill for a paladin to overmax because of the Constitution spell. Now, it only deals with the effectiveness of the resists you get from Astilar. (resist charm, resist poison)
c. misc.area determines the effectiveness of your Circle of Power ability.
Wisdom determines the effectiveness of all three of your abilities along with your skills too.
Its seems then, that the wisest way to advance the misc skills is to advance misc.area to 100-150 OR misc.target to 100-150. Dont do both. Maybe 100 on area and 50 on target is a another solution too.
Now its time to work a bit on your general skills. First do all of them except riding. Some might want to improve their swimming in the KT trainer.
If you want to get a slightly better charge earlier to get xp easier, advance riding to 50 too. Remember, this will add up on your overall level.
Max fa.sp.misc. This will get you your destrier warhorse.
advance fi.com.me.sharp to 350
Max fa.sp.defensive
Max fa.sp.offensive (you dont have to max offensive if you didnt work on fa.s.o.t earlier, just dont touch offensive at all if you dont like wrath)
Now you might want to work on faith and fighting together. Though most people will first max out faith completely and then start working on fighting. It's up to you.
For faith,
Max fai.spells
Max faith
Max faith points
For fighting,
Max fi.co.special
Max fi.co.melee
Now you are almost finished maxing out.
Max fi.co
while you are maxing your riding skill.
Max fi.co.parry
Max fi
Max fi.p
Max fa.it.scrolls
Max fa.it
Work on the skills that are left.
During the whole process, remember to enchant your avenger for as much as it lets you to for your level at any time, in order to have it do the maximum of its damage.
