Janeway & Chakotay

The couple that was never meant to be. The relationship all began in 2371 when they both met each other. But their relationship beyond captain and commander began in late 2372 when they were forced to live on a Delta Quadrant planet which they named, "New Earth" after contracting a deadly virus. This was the point where Chakotay had probably developed feeling towards Kathryn Janeway. He found himself looking at Kathryn in a way that seem to suggest that he was attracted to her. It was as if he had just realised that he enjoyed this woman's company and had developed feelings for this Starfleet captain that he never thought he had.

So it looks like Chakotay developed feelings for Janeway during those few months on the planet. But did Janeway feel something for him? We'd say that she wasn't sure because she still had the hope of returning to her fiancé back on Earth and the hope of finding a cure for the virus so that she could return to her fiancé.
We don't know if it was our imagination, but we noticed that she was feeling her finger tips when she went to bed after Chakotay had given her a shoulder rub. This was how Jeri Taylor had described Janeway's actions when she was beginning to fall for her former, former fiancé, Lieutenant Justin Tighe.

It seemed like this relationship was going to go somewhere. It would have been great to have these two develop into something beyond friendship. But as seasons passed, that was all it was. A close friendship. We do understand that it wouldn't have been appropriate for the captain to have a full-on relationship with her second in command; because who knows what could happen to the command structure. As Chakotay said to the past-Janeway in the episode, 'Shattered', "Let's just say, there are some barriers we never cross". Another hint from the writers we believe. We don't know [smiles].

Now seven years later, there is still that caring relationship for one another but now, Chakotay is with someone else so it seems. Who would have picked that Seven of Nine and Chakotay would go together? Janeway and Chakotay was not possible. But for some reason Seven and Chakotay was even with the lack of chemistry developed. Oh well, it's another way of telling us persistent JCers that J/C cannot and will not happen. Or could it still happen?
