In the world of Star Trek, there is a lot
of techno-babble that goes on in a Star Trek episode. Sometimes, it just
gets so technical - because of all the technology names - that it just
baffles the hell out of us.
We believe that in order to enjoy a Star
Trek episode, you got to understand what they are talking about. To fully
appreciate Star Trek, we think that it'd be important to at least understand
a little bit about what each piece of technology does or what that techno-babble
line meant. For example, what is a gravimetric distortion? We haven't
a clue what that is - it's a distortion, yep we know that much. But sometimes,
knowing that 'some sort of distortion' just isn't enough.
What about the different coloured uniforms
the Starfleet Officers aboard USS Voyager wear? What is the significance
of having different colours? What about those metallic round things or
the bars on the turtle-neck skivvy?
So throughout the run of Star Trek: Voyager
we did some research on all that (as we were new to Star Trek and the
whole techno-babble that comes with every Star Trek series).
A few years ago, we were totally dumbfounded with all those technical
terms they used on Star Trek. We didn't even know why they had different
coloured tops in the uniforms. All we knew was that Kathryn Janeway was
the captain and in charge of the ship and Tom Paris was the Helmsman.
So now, because of that research we have
better knowledge of the world of Star Trek... not that much more but enough
to appreciate and understand what goes on on Star Trek: Voyager. So in
this section we've put up the information we found from Factfiles, Internet
and books.
