I've been doing alot of thinking about what I'm going to do in a few months when Arcanum finishes up. Arcanum can't be published elsewhere, by myself or another compnay, anytime soon, as legal and financial reasons prevent me. The low sales won't translate into high sales if I self-publish it: Instead of Top Cow and myself losing money on the book I'll be the only one losing money. Also, a book that was cancelled due to low sales doesn't exactly drum up alot of eager publishers looking to publish it so they can have a low-selling, money-losing book. Also, my focus at this point is creative, and I don't want to get distracted with distributors, retailers, employees, and all the rigamaroo that will prevent me from publishing an Arcanum issue again anytime soon. I'm talking with Top Cow over the next week, and if we can come to a mutually acceptable agreement, I'll probably continue to work there on a new project (I don't have any details at this point). If we can't, who knows. I'll try and keep everyone informed as to what's next.

Hey folks!

This is just an update and to answer a few of the questions that are going on about myself and Arcanum's demise. Here is a run-down of the situation:

When I contracted with Top Cow to produce Arcanum, a few provisions were made to protect them. A low-sales cut-off point was established and certain assurances were written in to the contract that minimize damage to Top Cow in a variety of situations. These provisions limit my choices for the immediate future with Arcanum now that Top Cow is cancelling it. What this means is Arcanum is on hold for the immediate future, and right now, I am talking with Top Cow and working out what my future plans with the compnay will be. I would have liked to see Arcanum continue as long as possible, but I understand Top Cow's position and what they want out of the book. Arcanum was not able to meet the demands that were made that I agreed to, and thus Top Cow has every right to do what they did. Top Cow isn't the villian in this, as there were no villians. Several different things contributed to Arcanum's inability to perform as needed, ranging from the lousy market to my indecision about what exact direction to take with the book. If people need a reason, than blame me--It was my name all over the book. Arcanum was an admirable attempt, but it didn't succeed.

As for me, I would like to keep making comics and feel that Arcanum was a very positive experience for the most part. I learned so much about the craft of comics and what I want to do in the industry, that it was truly a enlightening experience. I have a much clearer idea of what I am going to do in future work and what I want to do now in comics than I ever have before, and that's all due to Arcanum. Arcanum was a dream project in that I put alot of myself into it and I hope it showed. I loved Arcanum, but I feel that I could do another good book, or several good books in the future. I have other ideas and other things I might like to do, and it's best to look at situation like this as a chance for growth and expansion, and that's how I look at Arcanum. I will take what I've learned from Arcanum with me wherever I go from here, and I don't regret a minute of doing it.

Now for you people. :) I'm really flattered and comforted by the concern and feelings expressed over Arcanum. The fact people feel so strongly about it shows just how well the book succeeded in what I wanted it to do. I can't express enough gratitude to everyone who has enjoyed, supported, and given Arcanum a chance with their dollars. It's sometimes mindblowing to me that anyone but myself would be interested or affected by my ideas or creations. Thanks for giving me that chance.
