Air Rifle. Yupz.... I thank God for giving me a gift in the art and skill of shooting. And to think that I first joined the ECA back in 1992 because my wonderful brother told me the eca was not strenuous and time consuming to say the least....and look where I ended up? Its really amazing the way things turn out don't you think? =)
It all started in secondary school...while all us girls were punt-sized and
"scrawny" (quoting the Red Fish). Well, since then the rest is history...the
spirit of the school team amongst the Rafflesian schools kept us together and found us
achieving the best. Good hard training and having tons of fun when it should be, brought
medals into our hands and making our friends, family and teachers proud of us.
What can be so hard about shooting? Afterall its only an air rifle wat....etcetc. Well, this little known sport has been belittled all these years. It seems that only those who have tried it or is at least connected to it in some way or other knows that it really is it what it looks to be...regardless, it is a precision sport that is in Singapore going to be enhanced to the international standard (0.177), as the local standard of using the 0.22 has reached heights that well, in fact are the very best.
For the details of achievements of the team since well......LONG LONG ago, and I mean since way back when (from since the time of my seniors, seniors!) you can go and check out the air rifle webpage. URL is in the links page.
And now ladies and gentlemen, a brief and quick flashback into the air rifle scene:
Here is the entire team of RGS back in 1994. Right in front lying so um......watever, is
the "scary one"-- lao3 Yvonne. She is 4 years my senior, and a wonderful senior
who returns every year to support RGS and RJC in air rifle competitions.
And here is the totem pole of the B-Div. In front is Shiling, then xiao2 Yvonne, then me,
then Yenling. On the left is Red Fish (Yuli) and the right is Janice. Oh, and not to
forget our mascot.....Arcky!!! (he still is the mascot of RGS air rifle you know....)
This is the 1997 air rifle combined schools team....right.....anyway, this was taken at
the 1997 Pesta Sukan Shoot.
This is the 1995 Raffles Air Rifle family with the best over haul in years...records were
broken (team and individual)! From the front row to the back row: RI CDiv, RGS CDiv, RGS
BDiv, RI BDiv, RJC ADiv
The woman in chrage of training us is Zhang jiao4 lian4 from China, seen here with her
daughter.
