'Pool has not been one of the best documented mercenary. Information is scarce other than what could be found in past issues. On this page is all the info that we could salvage and find. It's added as we go! If you can offer some info write in! DP fans and us here would really appreciate it.
Wade Wilson was a mercenary in love with a beautiful young mutant girlfriend named Vanessa Carlyle, who loved him just as much. Unfortunately, Deadpool left his love with a promise from the Weapon X Project to cure his cancer in exchange for his services. The experiment was a success and Wade was rid of the cancer that was eating at him. The experimental drug he was given, induced a very special regenerative ability that now permits him to heal at a superhuman rate. The trade off for this miracle was the mutilation of his whole epidermis (skin). Wade in disgust of his newly acquired appearance gave himself the name of Deadpool.
Deadpool first contract was from Tolliver. His assignment was to find and kill a blockade in Tolliver's plans, Cable from the X-Force. Deadpool target was at hand and at his mercy when Domino, a fellow X-Force member of Cable showed up and silenced Deadpool. Deadpool was then mailed, that right mailed, by Cable, back to Tolliver.
Deadpool second contract from Tolliver sent him to Manitoba, Canada, to steal a shipment of Japanese software destined NATO intelligence research. Department H, Canada's superhero control center, was warned of Deadpool's activities and assigned their newly acquired Weapon X, Kane. Deadpool and Kane battled till the merc was cornered, until Bridge showed up and started a dispute with Kane, allowing a strategic retreat, for our fallen but not broken, merc.
Deadpool reappeared at one of Tolliver's safe houses to find information on the whereabouts of Venessa Carlyle, his past mutant girlfriend who can shapeshift and match any superhero's power with whomever she spends enough time with. She used these powers to transform into Domino, whom Deadpool is trying to kill. Deadpool and Sluggo, found and tried to kill Vanessa, but they realized that they killed Venessa's friend, Tina, who Vanessa had impersonated. The two mercenaries, Deadpool and Sluggo, tracked down Vanessa, to find out the whereabouts of some of Tolliver's goods, when Domino showed up and iced Sluggo and Deadpool. And if that wasn't enough, Venessa seals their faith and blows them away just to be sure.
Deadpool (and other of Tolliver's former employees) informed of Tolliver's will content, started a search for as written in the legal document, "Greatest Weapon on the Planet" which is promised to whomever can find it. Deadpool located a disk containing vital data in finding the location of the weapon. Unfortunately the information the disk contains is half complete. While looking for the remaining info, DP runs into trouble, mainly the Executive Elite. Captured by the group, Deadpool is force to undergo brainwashing to extract the information of the will, but reveals memories of Deadpool's dark past.
After escaping from the Executive Elite with some help from his friend, Weasel, Deadpool soon ran across Black Tom ty and the Juggernaut. Deadpool managed to steal the other disk from them and send them plummeting from a plane he hijacked to Sarejevo. Using the disk, Weasel and Deadpool snuck into a monastery in the Himalayas where Tolliver's weapon was supposed to be. There they found not just one weapon, but a whole treasure throve of them. The greatest of which was a robot named a Zero Unit. The Zero Unit was designed to nullify any weapon in its area, thus making it the greatest weapon of all because it could destroy all others. Deadpool didn't realize what the Zero Unit was though, and when Kane, Vanessa, and a former enemy of Deadpool's whom he thought he had killed, Slayback, showed up a fight ensued. Deadpool was about to be killed by Slayback when the Zero Unit activated and began to nullify all of the weapons around him, including Deadpool and Slayback. Slayback was seemingly destroyed, but because Deadpool used his powers of regeneration along with Vanessa's copying ability to save her life, he was spared by the Zero Unit. Kane took Vanessa off to a hospital to get help and Deadpool with the new found knowledge that his powers and skills could be used to help others, began to loot the temple.
Deadpool's next target was Silver Sable. He had been hired by a country who was upset at her for interfering in their plans. Deadpool's attempts to capture Sable were foiled by her skills and the appearance of Daredevil. Deadpool was eventually captured by them after a battle in the sewers, but warns Sable to kill him now because only death or a bigger paycheck would keep him from coming after her. Sable decides to pay him off and keep him on retainer to not only cancel the contract on her, but also to have him around in case she needs him.
Deadpool's next quest lies in, once again, the search of Venessa. Upon informing himself, DP followed a lead and searched Kane's house. From what DP heard, Kane and Venessa fell in love and has been living together for some time. Deadpool wanted his past love back and no one was to stand in his way, not Kane, not even Wolverine who was there at that time. DP fought Wolverine to the latter's unconsciousness and then chased Kane away. To finally, disappear out of the scene, once again.
Deadpool is hired by Dr Druid to protect the Moebius Stone from the being known as Malachi. 'Pool drops in on his assignment in the middle of a fight between a bunch of thugs and Cage (who has also been hired to protect the stone), Shadowoman, and Dr Druid. After dispensing with the thugs, Deadpool realises that all this sorcery is not for him and decides to leave, but is persuaded by Dr Druid and a psychic nudge to stay. Malachi shows up and takes the talisman they are supposed to protect. Malachi creates some monsters from the artwork in the museum and leaves with the stone. During the fighting, Dr Druid also disappears.
Dr Druid shows up in the middle of the fight, and tells Shadowoman how to defeat all the monsters. The Secret Defenders then transport and go after Malachi, finding her in a Cemetary. Malachi begins to activate the Moebius Stone, and in the process awakens Cadaver, who is protecting the stone for his master, Agamotto. Malachi succeeds in activating the Stone and begins to unravel Time itself.
Inside the Mausoleum, Deadpool and Cage fight off some more of Malachi minions. After defeating them, Cage is returned to a normal human by Malachi, and Cadaver is being infused with the soul of Malachi's former love. Meanwhile, Deadpool sneaks around behind her, and stabs her through the chest with his sword. Strange then shows up demanding the stone and Cadaver, who is now returned to his gruesome self, splits him up the middle, which has no effect on him. Strange then beats on Deadpool and Shadowoman. All this time, Cage has been sneaking up behind Strange and now grabs the Moebius Stone. Cage then throws the stone to Dr Druid who destroys the stone. All returns to normal and the Secret Defenders part company.
Black Tom Cassity sends the Juggernaut and other mercenaries after Deadpool who allies with Siryn and Banshee. In the battle DP got his hand cut off and found his healing ability to be lacking. Black Tom uses Deadpool's hand to cure himself, but can't handle the pain related to the cure. Deadpool and Siryn manage to place him in protective custody, and Deadpool kidnaps Dr. Kilbrew, from Black Tom, who created him, in hopes that he can repair his regenerative power.
While working undercover at the Weisman Institute for the Criminally Insane, Siryn gets into some trouble and calls on Deadpool to come help here out. Siryn is woken during one night by Deadpool posing as a surgeon wanting to play doctor, which Theresa quickly puts a stop too. Once Wade takes the inhibitor collar off Siryn, they both go looking for the head of the institute, Doctor Weisman. Unknown to them, all the while they are being watched by a ten year old boy called Jeremy Stevens. After kicking some butt on their way to the Doctor's room, they are both stopped inside the office by Jeremy. The next we see of Siryn, is her back at the Xavier Institute, with no recollection of what has happened at the mental hospital or Deadpool. Meanwhile, back the Weisman Institute, Wade is bound and gagged and being brought to see Jeremy and Dr Weisman, who believe that Deadpool is actually mentally unstable.
Weeks later, Siryn and Shatterstar are enjoying a game of cat and mouse in an abandoned church when Siryn sees Deadpool's reflection in Shatterstar's swords and remembers the event that occured at the Weisman Institute. Stealing an ambulance, Siryn and Shatterstar race to the mental hospital to rescue Wade. Inside the Institute, Shatterstar disappears looking for answers to a few of his questions and runs into Jeremy, Dr Weisman, who welcome him home, and a figure who looks remarkably like Deadpool. Elsewhere in the corridors of the Institute, Siryn is being harrassed by what looks like multiple Deadpools, then runs into a room that contains heaps of Wade's before he got cancer and joined Weapon X. Siryn tries to break away from the Wades but they turn into Wades after the cancer and try to attack her. Meanwhile, in a cell, Deadpool is sitting in a corner going mad when Siryn finds him. Deadpool requests that she kill him to stop what's going on, but they are interrupted by Jeremy and Doctor Weisman. Grabbing a sword of Deadpool, Siryn threatens Doctor Weisman and they discover that it has been the Gamesmaster that has been possessing Doctor Weisman's body who quickly departs. Grasping his opportunity, Deadpool steals a kiss, then heads back to work.
