History

Metallica, perhaps one of the greatest bands to ever walk through the earth, made to stand the test of time. Starting in 1981 in LA, the band quickly moved to the bay area to avoid the glam scene in which they did not belong, Once undergoing a few member changes, older players included bass player Ron McGovney, and a lead guitarist, Dave Mustaine. (now in Megadeth) and the tragic loss of Cliff Burton, and the musical (and not to mention hair) changes that have progressed them into the 90's (Some folks may call themselves "old Metallica fans" compared to others who are "new Metallica fans" however they are still the same great band that they were then and are now!) - for the record I even saw a site the other day comparing Metallica to Hanson, that's a little far fetched, but it proves to show my point - The line-up has stayed current and they are probably one of the few bands accepted by your sister and her children... Metallica has proved that they can play what the fans want to hear and keep progressing forward throughout the test of time.

The band includes vocalist James Hetfeild,(who writes 75% of the bands material) Lars Ulrich, on drums, (the one who came up with the name Metallica), Kirk hammet, (perhaps the greatest guitarist of all time) and Jason Newstand... With their best, and debut LP, Kill 'Em All Metallica proved that they definitely could! Next the band releases Ride the Lightening, and despite little airplay or "video play" (remember when they swore they'd never release a video?) the album goes gold and spends 50 weeks on Billboard's Top 200. I believe that Metallica was the first band to spread the popularity of heavy metal throughout the land and start a genre that changed my life! Master of Puppets is then released which sells over 1,000,000,000 copies in the U.S. alone. It is after this release that tragedy strikes and over a bus crash in Sweden the band looses the greatest bassist of all time, Cliff Burton (they didn't nickname me Cliff's little sister in high-school for nothing!) Cliff is replaced with ex Flotsam & Jetsam bassist Jason Newstead, and the band goes on to record some nifty little songs like "so what" for their $5.98 Ep... ...And Justice for All sees the last of their serious thrash material and moves them into video land and the "Black" album, which for so many fans - was! They then experiment with the new sound and release "Load" dissapointing die-hards headbangers and leaving many die-hard fans wondering what was in-store for Metallica's future (well at least this fan).

It took some perfecting but they have finally gained balanced direction with "Reload" a collection of songs left out from "Load" (that should have been put in) Re-Load places them right where they belong with it's heavy rotation of songs like "Fuel" "Devil's Dance", & "Better Than You" making me happy and songs like "Unforgiven II" allowing my nephew to look cool sporting a tallica "Lalapalooza" concert shirt, it's granted that Metallica is going nowhere but into the future and turning new ears wherever they go. There are just a plethora of web-pages out there, that I'm willing to bet the band has more pages than Marilyn Manson does. Below are just a smorgasboard smidge attempt of presenting some of the better 'tallica pages offered for your behalf. Click on the album cover for you wish for lyrics and music to guide you to the whole Metallica sound. Your best bet for a beginner is to purchase the box set...
