More About Alan

When I have fears that I may cease to be
Before my pen has glean'd my teeming brain,
Before high-piled books, in charact'ry
Hold like rich garners the full-ripen'd grain;

When I behold, upon the night's starr'd face,
Huge cloudy symbols of a high romance,
And think that I may never live to trace
Their shadows, with the magic hand of chance;

And when I feel, fair Creature of an hour!
That I shall never look upon thee more,
Never have relish in the faery power
Of unreflecting love -- then on the shore

Of the wide world I stand alone, and think
Till Love and Fame to nothingness do sink.

My Bio:

Hello. I am Alan M. Bruce. I am proudly left handed, not so proudly 33 years old, and I have spent the last several years as a computer programmer and IT manager for a rapidly growing company. This is a personal page, not a corporate one, so you'll not hear the name on this page!

My wife is a beautiful woman named Sonja, who is currently working at a local clinic as a physiotherapist. We live in Vancouver, B.C. That's Sonja with the Mona Lisa smile.

My pet peeve is that people think that one must be either an artistically inclined person or a computer person. Most people think that to be able to program and use computers at an advanced level, one needs equally advanced mathematical skills. Few realize that math skills are almost unnecessary for computer skills. After all, if you need to do math, get the computer to do it! If the computer is broken and can't do it, there isn't much point in programming it, is there? Do you agree? Disagree? Write me a note about it.

I have discovered that my skills of technical communication and digital manipulation of photographs are quite uncommon. So I'll offer that skill to anyone interested in inquiring. Or, if you need someone to write some documentation, manuals, HTML, C, or dBASE code for you, beam me some email. I do Windows and *nix.

If the government of the Cayman islands wants to hire me, even better!

I don't just write computer programs, Web pages, poetry and prose. Sonja and I enjoy hiking, backcountry skiing, SCUBA diving, and eating Greek food. I have yet to do all of the above simultaneously. Anybody out there want to join us in the chilly Pacific to see some big ugly fish?
