Awards and Honors

Every year, the German Deparment at Temecula Valley High School honors its students who have achieved far beyond the average student. There are four criteria used to select these students. First of all the student must perform at an academically high level throughout the year. Second, the student must exhibit an excitement and motivation for learning the German language. Third, the student must be a modal student in terms of his or her cooperation, not only with the teacher, but also with fellow students. And finally, the student exibits a desire to learn the language fluently in the future, which of course in the highest goal the German Program could acheive with a student.

Student of the Year in German, 1996

Lara Johnson

Lara, a German 4 student, will be attending BYU in this Summer and was a participant in our last GAPP exchange. To Lara's credit, she was a finalist in competition for the Golden Bear Award at TVHS for Student of the Year in Foreign Languages. Lara also has the destinction of being a former "Student of the Year" when she was in German 1 as a freshman. Lara has shown the highest motivation and commitment to learning German throughout her four years as TVHS and is headed for certain fluency in the language.

German 3 Student of the Year

Briana Sather

Briana is another former student of the year winner when she was in German 2. Briana has the distinction of being the only student in German to have gone on both of our GAPP exchanges in 1995 and 1996. Now that's committment! Briana is extremely talented in the German language and is considering spending 9 months in her senior year at our partner school in Gefrees.

German 2 Student of the Year

Heather Schoeppe

Heather Schoeppe is a person who exemplifies what the phrase "striving for excellence" means. Heather does painstakingly beautiful work in whatever she does, but more than that, she is very excited about learning German. In her two short years in German she has been to Germany once with our GAPP exchange and also attended German Camp all in the same year. Heather is the hands-down winner of "Student of the Year" in German 2.

German 1 Student of the Year

Heidi Schoeppe

Heidi Schoeppe thought she'd take German because her sister Heather liked it. Well, it turns out that Heidi has the same incredible work habits that Heather does...plus some! Heidi strives for the highest level of excellence in German as well as all her classes. She also plays a mean game of Mau-Mau (German Crazy Eights). Rumor has it that Heidi also wants to be a participant in GAPP in 1998.

Awards of Excellence
