Tournaments, Competition and Fun
The Jeopardy Tournament
This is the jewel of all the tournaments in the German Program as the winner walks away with a check in his or her hand for up to $300! The contestants test their knowledge of German culture, politics, history, geography and trivia against other students by competing in a series of Jeopardy games for an entire week. Students prepare months before hand with a book called, "Facts about Germany," generously donated to us by the Goethe Institute. To jump right now to the real Jeopardy homepage, CLICK HERE! The rules on television are used for the game. Students must take a rigorous exam to even qualify for the tournament. The six students who do qualify for the tournament compete in class with each other for the grand prize. This year's tournament will run from Monday, May 19th through Thursday, May 23rd. The winner of this year's tournament is (see blinking name):

The Mau-Mau Tournament
Mau-Mau is a card game played by Germans which is similar to Crazy Eights. It is a simple, mindless game, but a whole lot of fun, especially when 32 people enter the tournament! Teams of two play together. The winners receive a year pass to Magic Mountain or Disneyland; it's their choice! This year's 1998 winners are:
Rachel Pedersen and Heidi Schoeppe Sorenson
The Cluedo Tournament
This game is the actual game of Clue played in German! Twelve people compete for 3 days for a prize of $50! The winner will be the one who figures out "Who done it" two days in a row. This tournament is played in June.

1996 Dillon Mills
Monopolyfest
This one is a grand-ol' end of the year party at Herr Bradshaw's house and the object is to beat Mr. Bradshaw at German Monopoly, a near impossible task! Any student taking German celebrates the end of the school year by grilling some bratwursts and meeting others taking German in different levels from themselves. Other board games at this party include German Risk and Taboo!
