70´s and 80´s, the final step towards the independent Finnish school was taken in the frames of the new school legislation in Sweden. The aim of the education is active and balanced Finnish-Swedish bilingualism. On the basis of experience, it was stated that the most suitable and effective educational model, enhancing the developement of bilingualism among Sweden-Finnish migrant children, is a school of their own. The school started with the first 6 grades. Now we have 9 grades with more than 150 pupils. For the time being, there are 10 Finnish free schools in Sweden. The educational model has no predecessors, and internationally, the schools are unique.
