Romanticism and Shleiermacher

In his (1821) book The Christian Faith Shleiermacher presents religion not as a set of beliefs and obligations based on the authority of the Bible or the Church, but as the result of human being's feeling of absolute dependency in a grand universe of which they are only a small part. The goal of religion is to develop a feeling of dependence upon God.
