Look Onward, True Bereavers!

Despite one or two good times, the original Rotting Web, my first web page, will be closing it's links forever.  If this saddens you, then it should, because you have no one to blame but yourself.  If you liked the site you should have said so in the Guestbook.  And since there never was any Guestbook, you should have gotten up off your ass and mailed me.  To those of you who did mail me, and I remember most of you, sorry if this is a bummer to you.  I'm not leaving the internet or anything, but I'm eliminating one head-ache in a world of them by ditching this site.  To those who found something to like on the old site, hopefully you'll find those same qualities on my new Resident Evil site.  If not, there's always some pretty pictures over at House of Horrors. Bleargh.

As I've mentioned before, I'm too sentimental to actually delete old pages, they're still floating around in cyberspace, untethered to any links of mine.  I'm keeping this page, the intro, up so that people will know what's going on, and not get some goddamn error message if they try to access this site.  I've kept the old intro mostly intact (even with my old pseudonym, ASHMAN).  I'm still fond of the mangled Ash monologue...and the Stephen King quote...even the over used blood bar...

(title by -the_dead_yuppie)

---dead_yuppie did several really cool pics for me, I'm planning on incorporating them into the new page.

"Decayed monsters with naked bone showing through their dried skin, traffic accident victims, the morticians' concealing make-up sloughed away so that the ripped faces and bashed-in skulls showed, women with their hair teased into dirt-clogged beehives where worms and beetles still squirmed and crawled, their faces alternately vacuous and informed with a kind of calculating, idiotic intelligence"

-Stephen King

---FYI, this passage was taken from the King short story "Home Delivery."  I was planning on doing a section on zombies in novels and short stories, but never got around to it.  One more thing...

last updated:  June 20, 1998

---the site really died long before this, but I insisted on regularly updating random things.  That's another reason I'm really trying to end it here.

IF YOU WISH TO ENTER THE ROTTING WEB THIS INSTANT,

YOU'RE OUT OF LUCK!!

---History of Contents: In the beginning there were separate pages for all three Evil Dead movies, and each one had it's one "pics page," and maybe a links page for the whole series.  Same with the Romero trilogy.  A pretty big Braindead/Dead-Alive page.  And my pride and joys, my Miscellaneous Zombie Movie page, and my Miscellaneous Zombie page, which was supposed to have any non-cinematic zombies, but never got started.  A "site info" and "about the author" style page.  And of course, my first RE page.  Somehow, the site began to shrink.  I wasn't able to give the sections the attention they deserved, so I cut pages out.  At least that's what I was planning on doing, before AOL cancelled my account, and thus destroyed my web page.  At about the same time my hard-drive crashed (this was not unusual), wiping out all record of TRW, save for a VERY early version which I had on disk.  I gave up on TRW and started a completely different web page with my new AOL account.  I let a guy I knew from AOL take over the page, mailing him the old. HTML files straight from the disk.  I could have cared less.  Awhile later I checked out the "new" Rotting Web, and wasn't happy.  Discontentment and TRW certainly seem to go hand in hand, but anyway...  I reworked all the old HTML files and uploaded them into my Geocities account (I had been kicked off AOL again by this time).  Everything seemed to be going fine; somehow the Neo-RW accumulated over 3000 hits.  My interests were elsewhere though (possibly RE2), and I was still practically ignoring the old web site.  In an attempt to lessen my "responsibilities", I eliminated most of the different sections of the site.  Both MISC. sections were out.  The RE section , my personal favorite, was out.  I cut the Evil Dead and Romero sections down to one page each.  It remained like that for months, until someone (possibly myself) suggested that I update the 'ol Zombie Page.  At first this sounded like good fun, but the more I thought about it, the more I didn't want to think about TRW anymore.

Alright you AOL lamers, LISTEN UP! see this?!  THIS...

...Is my ZOMBIE PIC!

...It's a 44 thousand byte jpg,  ASHMANS's top of the line.  You can find this in the ROMERO TRILOGY department.  That's right, this sweet baby was made in DAY OF THE DEAD.  It's got pale yellow skin, an exposed nasal passage...and a quick download time.

That's right.

Surf smart.  Surf "THE ROTTING WEB."

YA GOT THAT?!?!

Now I swear...the next one of you NERDLINGS...even TOUCHES that back arrow...and I'll-

BLAM!

BLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAM!

....Now...let's talk about sending some mail bombs to AOL's main offices...

This page sucks and you suck for being here.  HAHA, just a little reverse psychology.  Come on in.

!

Blood Donor...

Page of the Dead

...Thanks guy.

---Now that I'm out of business, I'm no longer compelled to put up the banners of sites that lent me pics.  See ya House of Horrors.  I'm keeping the Page of the Dead link up, not because I think anyone will use it, but because the guy who owns Page of the Dead was cool through and through.

see this #?  It's too goddamn small to justify the amount of time I spent on TRW.  I know I'm being greedy, but the hell with me.

All in all, TRW saw about 7000 hits from start (August '96-or was it '97?) to finish (August '98).

Geocities is pretty cool as far as I can tell. I still haven't figured out what they get out of hosting my page for me.

Well, I did eventually figure out what Geocities was getting out of it. Those bloody pop-up windows, and that ghostly "Geocities" sign floating all over my pages.

Anyway, like I was saying, I'm aborting this page so I can at least convince myself I'm concentrating fully on my latest RE project.  The address is:  http://members.tripod.com/~Bad_Ass_Barry/newevil.html.  The site title is "The Rotting Web presents:  Resident Evil 3."  I'm fond of the images the words "Rotting Web" summons up in my mind, and also, I'd be damned before I like Dead_Yuppie's pics go to waste.  The title is a little ungainly, but it'll change when RE3 is released.

I've done a couple of other pages/sites between TRW and TRW:RE3, but I won't drag my already useless reputation through the mud even more by mentioning them.

Hope you enjoy the new page, True Bereavers.

I remain,
