The Preston Temple

As announced in the Church News of 30 September 2000, the new president of the Preston England Temple
will be David Moore Porch of Glasgow, Scotland, and serving with him as matron, his wife, Mary Bateman
Porch.

A former stake president, district president, branch president, and Institute instructor, President Porch is a
well-loved and respected member of the Glasgow Stake. He and Sister Porch joined the Church in the 1950s
during a pioneering era in Scotland. The country was covered by one district and only a handful of branches
at that time, and the Porches were quickly pressed into service. President Porch travelled all over Scotland
almost every weekend, giving leadership and training to the growing congregations. When the first
Scottish stake was created in Glasgow in 1962, he was called to serve as a counsellor to the new stake
president. He himself served as stake president from 1969-1977, and before and since that time he has been,
and continues to be, an influence in the lives of countless members of the Church in his service as
stake patriarch.

Sister Porch has also been a great example of leadership and compassionate service. She has served as,
to name but a few callings, stake Relief Society president and counsellor, and ward Primary and Relief Society
president. While the Porches were members of the Pollok Ward, Paisley Scotland Stake, Sister Porch and her
companion were known for their dedicated service as one hundred percent visiting teachers for many
consecutive years.

Their calling to serve in the temple in this capacity will come as no surprise to the members of the Church
in Scotland, who have long known that the Porches are special servants of the Lord, and that they are willing
to follow Him wherever and whenever they are called. They take up their new appointment on 1 November 2000.
