This special section of athosbouyoukas.com is dedicated to one of the most energetic and refined female swimmer that I have met...Summer Sanders. I met Summer my junior year in college at Southern Illinois when the SIU Swim Team hosted a meet and Stanford (With Summer and Janet Evans) were invited. My roomate at the time majored in Radio and Television and helped to cover the event for SIU-TV and one of my Political Science classmates was editor in chief of the Daily Egytpian, the school newspaper. Also, another female friend of mine, Elysse, was on the SIU Swim Team as well. What all this amounts to was me given a golden opportunity to attend the event and hobnob with all of the swimmers afterwards at a few "socials." I met and congratulated Janet Evans on her accomplishments in Seoul and wished her luck in Barcelona. She was very nice and also introduced me to a Barcelona medal hopeful...Summer Sanders. And that is how I met Summer! She herself was very nice and when I told her I was from the Chicago area, she went ballistic and was telling me all about how she loves basketball and especially Michael Jordan and how he was her personal hero! I found her energy, outgoing personality and independent thought to be a breath of fresh air, and from that day forward I really started to mold my entire attitude towards life in general with the panache that Summer displayed that evening. And that is why, after almost 10 years, I could honestly say that I look up to Summer. And besides, she is a kick-ass swimmer and of the more, if not the most, beautiful woman that I have ever met! I SHOULD have asked her for an autograph, but I didn't....damn!!
