Job Announcement

In the spring of 2000, the Toronto Association of Visual Language Interpreters will once again try to securing funding to hire a summer student. Please read the following and share with your colleagues and interested students.

Position Title: Student Interpreter

Start Date: May - August 2000

Salary: TBA (minimum wage - 40 hour work week)

Location: Greater Toronto Area

Primary Responsibilities:

Responsible to the Board of Directors, the student interpreteršs main duties will consist of the provision of interpretation services under the supervision of a professional interpreter to the Toronto Deaf community. The student interpreter will coordinate their daily and weekly schedule, complete monthly activity reports, and participate in weekly supervision meetings (in-person or telephone)

Special Projects:

In addition, the student interpreter will assist with up-coming community and professional development activities (Mayfest, Deaffest, and Consortium on Communication in Education), and perform administrative duties as required.

Qualifications:

Currently enrolled in an Interpreter Training Program. Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language and English, and prior experience interpreting under supervision. Ability to work independently, maintain accurate and complete records, and complete projects in a timely fashion.
