Unless you're already on the Mexican mainland, you'll probably be coming from the USA and especially through California. La Paz is about 950 miles from San Diego. The road, Interstate 1, you cannot miss it, there is only one, is generally very good. It's a beautiful 2 day drive with an incredible scenic road and spectacular landscapes.
Important notice: avoid driving at night and don't forget to purchase Mexican insurance for your car. Buy it a couple of days before leaving to avoid the stress at the border.
