WSSA Meetings and Conferences

The Annual WSSA Conference and Training Institute occurs in conjunction with the annual membership business meeting. This is a three day conference, usually held in June, afforded all WSSA members as an opportunity for training, camaraderie, exchange of ideas and recognition of meritorious service at the awards banquet. It is an all-encompassing conference with workshops provided to cover all areas of the social/human service field. The conference is open to all persons, whether or not they are members of WSSA, but non-members are assessed a separate registration charge. Click here to find out more about the 2000 conference.

The Executive Committee, standing committees and ad hoc committees meet regularly - as often as monthly if needed. The agenda is established by the committee dependent on the purpose of the committee. Meetings are open, however, only elected or appointed committee members may vote on committee business.

District associations meet as prescribed by their constitutions and bylaws, usually quarterly. The meeting consists of district business and committee member reports. In addition to the district business meeting, the program consists of one or two informational workshops. Attendance is open, but only WSSA members may vote during the business meeting and some districts have a non-member registration fee charge.

Standing committees will sometimes sponsor or co-sponsor training open to all individuals in a related field. For example, the General Relief Committee sponsors a two day conference targeted to persons who work in the GR field. This conference is held in the fall. The Service Support Committee also helps the state plan an annual workshop and the ES/Workforce Development Committee is sometimes asked to co-sponsor conferences and workshops with the Division of Economic Support (DES). These trainings are at the option and initiative of the specific committee and with the approval of the Executive Committee, which is the designated "conference board."
