Program Notes

Bless The Lord, O My Soul
The text is from Psalm 103

My Heart Soars
Ms. Henderson captures the essence of
a beautiful poem by Chief Dan George.

A Great Big Sea
This sea shanty style folk song features
traditional fiddling and spoons. The text
tells the story of the effects of a terrible flood
on a small fishing village.

When I Am Silent
This very moving song was written for
a young girl at Auchwitz.

Al Shlosha D'Varim
(sung in Hebrew)
This is a lyrical setting of the text from
Pirkei Avot (Jewish morality laws).
The text translated means: "the world is
sustained by three things, by truth, by
justice and by peace."

Cantate Domino
(Premiere Performance)
The W.Va. All-State Children's Chorus
commissioned this song in celebration of
this our 10th Anniversary Concert.
The text is adapted from Psalms 47,96,
98 and 149.

Amazing Grace
John Newton wrote Amazing Grace in the
18th century as an anthem of Hope.
The melody is said to be an early
Protestant hymn entitled "New Britain".

J'Entends Le Moulin
(sung in French)
This piece was originally known as
"Mom pere a fait batir maison".
The text appears at times to be illogical and
nonsensical due it's "games of rhymes" in which
the final syllables of each line all rhyme
with the "tends" of "J'Entends".
