David Duchovny, the man who always seemed to have it all - the career, the
face, the body, the wife - now has even more. 'The wife', beautiful actress Téa Leoni is nearly four
months pregnant with their first child. And unlike his character Mulder in The X Files who is
renowned for his difficulties in finding the truth, even though it's out there, his path to Téa may have
been long but it was always true. "I met Téa about six years ago." he says. "I was going to be on
The Tonight Show and at lunch with the producers they invited somebody else who would be
interviewed at the same time. That was Téa. She proceeded to talk the entire time and be very
charming and funny; but I hated her because I couldn't get a word in!"
A year later David, who earns a reputed £75,000 an episode, and Téa were sharing the same agent who, acting as matchmaker, worked out that they were both single and set up a dinner date between them. "I wasn't able to come in from The X Files set in Vancouver for three weeks," says David. "So we talked for all that time on the phone before we really went out to dinner. After two weeks, I would actually look forward to coming home from work and talking on the phone to this person that I barely knew. I knew something was going on; we went out to dinner and we've been together ever since."
It's hard to imagine David, 37, who gained an MA in English Literature at Yale and was one thesis short of gaining a PhD when he began acting, being lost for words, but it was Téa who popped the question. "She closed the deal." he reveals. "She's that kind of woman. We had three weeks of very intense personal conversation without physical contact, so it was kind of scary to actually go out, because we had gone further talking to each other on the phone than you would normally."
After ten tense minutes at the restaurant David relates that it was 31-year-old Téa who broke the ice: "She said, 'Look, nobody's looking. I want to kiss you right now.' and I said 'What do you mean nobody's looking?' and so we kissed and then we relaxed a little, and it's just been like that. I don't know if it's because we both grew up in New York but we just seemed to have known each other for a long time.
"I realised then that I was completely ready for marriage." says David. "It was one of the clearest moments of my life, I didn't have to agonise over it at all and I've never doubted it."
Duchovny was one of showbusiness's most eligible bachelors and was romantically linked with Winona Ryder after splitting up with actress Perrey Reeves. The smooth operator once told Playgirl magazine that his favourite part of a woman's body was: "Where the back of the upper thigh turns into the rear end. It's got everything you need. You could build a house there and be happy."
Despite David having a Jewish father the couple had a church wedding, at the Gracechurch school in Manhattan where he was educated and where his mother teaches. "Since Téa is from Manhattan it was wonderful to get married at Gracechurch." says David. "It's a beautiful old church but when we asked they said no because I'm half Jewish and Téa's divorced. But my mother spoke to the headmaster and they allowed us to use the courtyard and everything turned out fine."
Now that he's married, the star, who receives thousands of fan letters a week and has a special web site devoted to a Mulder appearance in swimming trunks, has to deal with Téa's fans too: "The men of the world hate me because it seems that the entire male contingent on this planet is in love with my wife. Guys would say to me, 'I was really angry at you for a couple of weeks' I mean, they're really serious!"

THE X FILES
STARS DOUBLE THEIR EARNINGS
The X Files stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny have agreed a £14 million deal to appear in two more series of the hit show. Duchovny will receive the largest share- £8 million.
GILLIAN ANDERSON AND DAVID DUCHOVNY
THE X FILES IS OUT THERE - IN LOS ANGELES
After months of wrangling and threatening to quit, it looks like agents Mulder and Scully, aka David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, have finally got their way - The X Files is moving to Los Angeles. The show is currently filmed in Vancouver, Canada, but after his marriage to actress Téa Leoni last year, David warned that he would leave if the show wasn't filmed closer to home so they could spend more time more time together - that was, of course, before his new film Playing God flopped at the box office and before Téa became pregnant. Still, TV executives are desperate to keep him happy, so now the series will be shot on studio lots in LA. Chris Carter, the creator of teh show, that has made The Unexplained fashionable, says the two stars had a big say in the decision and uses the phrase: "They are the one we are listening to." The one? Read into that what you will.
As ever the content, tone and accuracy of the article are all the
responsibility of the original authors. They say Tea is pregnant, David said in a radio interview that she wasn't. All rights still belong to
them too, OK! magazine that is. I'm borrowing it completely without
permission. I avoided all editorial comment even when it was really
tempting.
