Conversations With Jack & Diane

                          Love on the Bay

Jack sat quietly, the surrounding beauty of Reed's Bay
calming his fired passions. What pleasures he had experienced
just a few days before, right upon the very spot he now sat. A
rocky promontory covered over with naupaka grass, making it soft and
cushiony. His pants were rolled up a bit and his feet dangled lazily
in the cool emerald waters.
"Penny for your thoughts," called the sweetness of a most
familiar voice.
"I was hoping you'd show up," Jack smiled, his gaze still
fixed upon the placid surface of his beloved bay.
"Oh you were, were you," Diane uttered softly, sitting
herself next to Jack, her feet joining his in the carressing chill of
the sparkling bay.
"Yes," he whispered, the smile still very evident on his
roughed face.
"You look like the proverbial cat that's just ate the poor
little mouse," Diane chuckled.
Jack didn't answer. He just turned and faced his blue eyed
beauty of a friend, arching his brows playfully, chuckling softly.
"Oh go ahead and tell me what it is," she prodded. "You
know you're dying to do just that." She tossed the flaxen strands
of her silky hair back over her shoulder with a practiced ease.
"Do you really wanna hear about it," he probed?
"Yes Jack , I do, " she assured him. "Anything that can put
such a radiant little smirk on the face of my best friend has got to
be worth hearing about."
"Hmmmm, I don't know about that," he laughed. "You
may get a little jealous."
Diane's expression tightened just a bit. "And what do you
mean by that," she asked?
Jack took a deep breath. "Well," he began. "I sorta
had...ahhhh. How can I put this..." He frowned for the first time
that day.
Diane's brow furrowed as she looked at her friend. "Oh
my god Jack. I know the look you have in your eyes. I've worn it
myself." She took his face into her hand and guided his gaze to
hers. "You've had an affair, haven't you?"
"How'd you figure that?" he frowned again, his tightening
jaw pulsing against her palm.
"Oh god Jack," she repeated. "How could you?" she
whispered, her blue eyes tearing.
"What's the matter sweetheart?" he pursued. "I was only
kidding when I said you'd be jealous. I didn't think you actually
would be."
"Oh don't be an ass Jack," she spat, letting go of his warm
face. "I'm not jealous. I'm ...I'm disappointed." She folded her
arms across her chest.
Jack stared back out at the bay. "Well I didn't mean to
disappoint you," he offered gently. "But being with Tera was
incredible. A loving memory that I shall cherish as long as I live."
"Is that her name," Diane asked?
"Yes," he answered. "Sweetest Tera is her name."
"Oh I think I'm gonna puke," Diane scuffed.
"Don't be like that Di. The time I spent with her was and
will always be very special to me. I need a friend right now, to
discuss this with. Not some jealous person filled with feminine
ego."
"If you didn't mean so much to me Jack, I'd drown your ass
right now."
He looked at her, their eyes meeting and holding strong.
Seconds ticked away, each unable to find any words for the other
until Jack broke the hanging silence.
"May I tell you about it," he asked? "I need to talk about it
with someone. I'd really like it to be you." He held her cerulean
gaze.
"Oh alright," she relented. "But don't expect me to be
thrilled about it." She unfolded her arms and relaxed a little. "But
spare me the explicit details will ya."
Jack smiled. "No explicits, I promise."
"Good. Now just one more thing before you begin."
        "What," he asked?
"What about Jan. Does she know?'
"No," Jack shook his head. "She doesn't know." He
paused for a moment. "And she'll never know."
"Smart move," Diane injected. "She'd kill you if she ever
found out."
"Yeah..." Jack whispered, shaking his head. "Or she'd celebrate.
She's still talking divorce you know." He waved his hand dismissively.
"But enough about that. Do you wanna hear about Tera and I or not?"
"Yes Jack. I want to hear. Tell me all about your illicit
little fling."
He shot her a serious glare. "It wasn't like that Di. What
Tera and I shared was something I never thought I'd ever
experience with anyone but Jan."
"Oh really,' Diane quipped. "And what exactly did you
experience, as you put it, with this Tera person?"
"True love Di. That's what. A true and perfect love," he
responded.
"Oh, now I know I'm gonna puke."
"Shut up and listen will ya," he pleaded.
"Ok, I'll listen. Tell me all about it Jack."
"Alright, I shall," he smiled, settling back, resting on his
side facing Diane, the cool of the bay stretching beyond his
dangling feet. He began his story.
"I was down at Carlsmith Beach Park. You know, the
beach that all the locals call Four-Miles."
"I know the place," Diane assured him.
"Anyway," he continued. "I was sitting atop the life guard
stand. Which I always do early in the mornings before the real life
guards go on duty." He winked at Diane and smiled. "All of a
sudden I heard this soft voice call up to me..."
                            . . .
"Is it too early to go in swimming yet?" asked the soft
lilting accent.
Jack looked down from his lofty perch. "Excuse me?" he
uttered, instantly stunned by the sheer beauty of the young woman
who smiled up at him. Her eyes were so green that they took his
breath away. The radio that hung on the lifeguard stand started
playing Savage Garden's, Truly, Madly, Deeply. And at that
moment Jack knew that the perfect creature that stood before him
was someone very special.
"Excuse me?" he uttered one more time, his lips trembling
into a slow, full smile.
"I asked if it would be okay to go in for a swim. Even if it
is still so early and noone else seems to be here yet. But since you
are here, the life guard, I figured the beach was opened."
"Lifeguard..." Jack repeated, his voice barely audible.
"Yes lifeguard," the young woman smiled. "And might I
say, a very goodlooking one at that." She smiled demurely, taking
Jack's breath away yet again.
"You are very charming," he beamed. "And thank you,
from the bottom of this old man's heart, for that compliment."
"Oh I'm sure you aren't all that old. I'm twenty-two. How
old are you?" she asked sweetly, walking around the front of the
orange-piped stand.
Jack looked down at her bikini-clad form and held on tight.
The perfection of her body made him dizzy.
"I, I'm a lot older than that," he finally managed.
"Well," she offered. "However old you are, you still look
young and handsome to me."
He shook his head and gathered himself. "Are you flirting
with me young lady?" he asked, unable to hide the smile that
stretched across his tanned face.
"Uh huh," she replied. "I surely am. But in a purely
innocent kinda way." She chuckled softly. "I'm sorry," she
offered. "I'm not usually this forward. But you have to
understand. I've dreamt about this moment all my life."
"What moment," Jack asked. Totally engrossed in
anything this beautiful creature had to say.
"This moment," she expressed, spreading her arms wide.
"Being here, in Hawaii. And this day," she smiled, twirling around
in a perfect circle. "It is absolutely gorgeous. The sun is so warm
on my skin. The breeze so soft in my hair." She ran her fingers
through the long silky strands of her honey colored hair, her
sparkling green eyes cast upon Jack. "And you," she added.
"Meeting you here on a secluded beach on such a day. A
handsome Hawaiian lifeguard. It's all like a dream come true."
"Well," Jack sighed, barely able to keep his seat. "You
make it all sound so wonderful. And yes, the sun is warm and the
breeze soft. But I am not Hawaiian, nor am I a lifeguard." He
watched her closely, hoping upon hope that he had not
disappointed her with his admission.
"You aren't?" she asked, her expression turning somewhat
confused. "But…" she offered, her words cut short by Jack.
"I shouldn't be up here in the tower," he shrugged. "But I
always avail myself of it's pleasing shade when I'm here in the
early morning. And although I am tanned and local-looking, I'm
not of Hawaiian ancestry." He descended the tower and stood
face to face with the young beauty. "I hope that doesn't disappoint
you too much," he smiled, taking her flawless face into the palm of
his hand.
She could feel the power of his hand even through the
gentleness of his carressing fingers. She leaned into it, and closed
her eyes, sighing as she felt the soft warmth of his lips on hers.
"Oh god," she whispered as their lips parted. Her eyes
opened slowly, looking directly into Jack's glistening fox-brown
gaze. "I've never been kissed like that before," she breathed.
"I'm sorry," Jack confided. "I shouldn't have done that."
"Why?" she frowned. "It was wonderful."
"Yes it was," he agreed. "But married men shouldn't be
kissing beautiful young women in the early morning light of
windswept beaches.
"You're married?" she asked, taking a step back from the
captivating man before her.
	"Yes," he repeated. "I'm married."
	"And you kissed me?"
	"Yes," he nodded slowly.
	"Why," she probed?
"I don't know," Jack asnwered, his expression tightening.
He shook his head, casting his gaze to the ground. His heart soared
when she moved up close to him again and hugged him close, her
gaze lifting his as she returned the passionate kiss.
"My name is Tera," she spoke as their lips again parted, her
fresh, sweet breath warm on his face.
"I'm Jack," he replied. "And I have never been more
pleased to make a person's acquaintance." He smiled slowly,
loving the feel of her arms around his waist.
"What happens now Jack," she pursued? "I don't think I
can stop at just kissing you."
	"Nor I," he admitted. "But…"
"No buts Jack," she hushed him. "Please don't let this
dream end for me. I need this Jack." She looked up at him. "It
isn't right, I know that. You being a married man and all. But it
just feels so right, you know."
	"I know Tera," he nodded. "I know…"
They stood together for several minutes, neither saying
another word. Each thinking through what they knew was about to
happen.
"By the way, I'm from Monterey California," she
whispered, breaking the echoing silence, her body still engulfed in
Jack's strong arms.
"Beg your pardon," Jack mumbled, his eyes cast on the
ocean.
"I'm from Monterey California," she repeated.
"I've heard it's beautiful there," he smiled down at her.
"It is. But not nearly as beautiful as Hawaii. Especially not
at this moment."
"Are we really gonna do this," he asked?
"Do you want to," she posed?
He held her even closer. "Yes, I do," he assured her. "As
you said a moment ago. It all feels so right."
She lay her head against his chest. He breathed her
fragrance into himself, his eyes closing as he felt the warmth of her
body cascade over his limbs, over his mind and thoughts. It took
only a second longer to decide the fate of this day.
"I know a place," he whispered. "A place I'd like to be with
you."
"Where," she asked? "Take me there Jack. I don't care
where it is. Just take me there. Take me there now."
Her eyes were so green, so perfect. Jack drew away from
the embrace and took her by the hand.
"I shall," he smiled, leading her back down the gravelled
path toward the parking lot.
She followed, her mind racing, her body warm with
anticipation. How could she be doing this she thought to herself?
I'm letting myself be led by a man I don't even know. She paused
in her thoughts for a moment. But I do know him, don't I ? He is
the dream I've had all my life. This whole morning has been that
dream. My dream. The only dream I've ever truly wanted. And
now it's so close. And I won't let it slip away unattained. She was
resolute in her determination. She would have this man. If only
for a moment in time.
"Where are you taking me," she asked, her footsteps rapid
as she tried to keep up with Jack's long strides.
"Paradise," he smiled back at her.
"Confident aren't we?" she snickered playfully, her heart
fluttering.
"Very," Jack said assuredly. "But this place I have in mind
is actually paradise. It is a perfect spot I know on a quiet bay."
"Is that where you'll make love to me," she asked?
Jack reached for the passenger door of his car as answered.
"That's where we'll make love to each other." He helped her in
with a practiced grace, kissing her cheek before he closed the door.
They drove the five miles in silence. Jack watched the
road and Tera stared out at the glinting ocean that swept toward
the bluest horizon she had ever seen. Jack pulled into a sandy
parking spot, under a young banyan tree.
"Reed's Bay," Jack spoke, his voice low and soft.
"Is that what it's called," she inquired, her emerald gaze
taking-in the majestic beauty of the little bay.
"Yes," he nodded. "Come on, I want you to see that special
spot I mentioned."
"Okay," Tera agreed, following Jack as he strolled along
the most perfect white sand beach she had ever layed her eyes on.
He took her hand again and slowed his stride so she could
walk beside him. He led her into a thicket of shore-pines, along a
sandy path that meandered toward a promontory that stretched out
into the bay, it's surface covered by a spongy grass that felt so good
beneath her bare feet.
"Is this the spot," she asked?
	"Yes," he replied.
"It's beautiful," she gasped as the last of the shore-pine
branches cleared away from her face, leaving an unobstructed view
of the crystal bay, it's shimmering surface calling out softly to the
senses.
"Do you like it?" he asked, his strong arm snaking around
her waist.
"Oh Jack," she sighed. "It's even more beautiful then I'd
imagined." She smiled up at him. "Can we sit together for a
moment before we…"
Jack put his fingertip to her lips. "Shhhh," he said
soothingly. "Don't say it," he smiled gently. "Let's just let it
happen." He kissed her softly, his hands exploring the curve of her
back.
They sat at the water's edge, their feet wading in the gentle
touch of the cool bay.
"I've never wanted anything as much as I want to be with
you right now Jack," she offered sensually. "But I don't understand
why."
"I don't understand it myself," he assured her. "I just know
that I need to be with you. As if it were destined almost." He
chuckled. "Sheeeesh, that must sound like the oldest line in the
book."
She chuckled in return. "Yes it does Jack. But I think you
may be right."
"I'm always right babe," he winked, smiling that smile that
had so quickly become her heart's desire…
                               . . .
"Well…that's it," Jack offered Diane. "Thanks for allowing
me to share that with you," he smiled.
"Oh don't you dare Jack," Diane fumed. "You tell me what
happened next or I'll rip your face off!"
"Ha ha ha," he laughed, trying in vain to keep her playfully
grasping hands at bay. "Ok, ok, I'll tell you," he promised. "But I
thought you didn't want to hear any of the explicit details?"
"Well, I don't. Not every explicit detail," she chuckled.
"Perhaps just the "R" rated version."
	"Are you sure?" he probed.
"Oh just tell me Jack," she ordered.
"Okay," he smiled. "Where should I start?" he teased,
smiling at her without making eye contact. "Okay," he finally
relented. "I kissed her as we sat at the water's edge," he began…
                           . . .
"Oh Jack you taste so good," Tera sighed, her lips touching
his.
They slid up along the naupaka grass and lay down next to
each other, the heat of their bodies adding to the heat of the aging
morning. Jack touched her with trembling fingers, the softness of
her body thrilling him beyond comprehension. He kissed the soft
of her belly, his fingers carressing her thighs. Their clothing
removed in favor of bare skin.
"Take me Jack," she called out softly. "I belong to you.
Make me yours," she pleaded.
Like the soothing shadow of a tree he rose above her and
lowered himself onto the most exquisite human being he had ever
seen. The feel of her wrapping around him made him sigh against
the soft of her face.
"Oh, Tera," he managed in a raspy gasp of pleasure.
The sun heated their embrace as the sheen of passion
covered their mingling bodies. Their moans rose into the trees and
became the morning call of birds. The whole of the bay sighed
with an ethereal resonance as, within it's boundaries, the truest of
loves gave voice to the beauty that surrounded it.
                            . . .
"There Diane, are you happy now?" he asked jokingly.
"You actually made love to her?" she probed, a tinge of
remorse grasping her expression.
"Yes," he affirmed. He leaned forward, looking at himself
in the reflection of the water. "God help me, but it was the most
glorious morning of my life."
Diane ignored the statement. "So where is she now?"
"Back in Monterey," he answered, still looking at himself
in the glassy surface.
"Is this now gonna become like a semi-annual pilgrimage
she makes? Coming to paradise to be with her islandboy?" Her
tone was just a bit to venemous.
"Don't be like that Diane," he implored. "Tera gives me
something I really need in my life."
"I could have given you that had you asked," she assured
him.
"I know Diane," he replied, sitting up and wrapping his
arms around his best friend, pulling her close. "And together we'd
of been wonderful. But…"
"But what Jack," she prodded. "But what?"
"But…I don't know," he shook his head, kissing his friend
on her forehead. "I just don't know."
She snuggled close to him. "Do you love her?"
Jack thought for a moment, Jan's face suddenly cascading
into the mix. "Yes," he finally confided. "Which means I now
love two women." He kissed her forehead again. "Three actually."
"Oh you don't have to say that Jack. I'm okay with the fact
that you don't love me that way."
"Oh but I do sweetheart." He rubbed the warmth of his
hand down over his face, taking a deep breath in the process. He
shook his head slowly. "Do you think I'll ever figure out how to
deal with all these mingled loyalties I've brought upon myself?"
"Who knows," Diane answered. "But not to worry. One, or
perhaps all three of us will probably kill you long before it
becomes too much of a burden." She looked up at him and smiled,
winking wickedly.
"Ha ha ha…very funny. Stop kidding around sweetheart."
"Who said I was kidding," she shot back, snuggling even
closer to him, smiling contentedly as they enjoyed the beauty of
the bay.
