Birth of the Lord
_________________

Thus the great king gave the sweet dish
Only to two senior queens to satisfy their wish
But each from her own desire to share
Gave a little pudding to the third queen, O how fair!

Then the heavens rang with joy and happiness
And the earth became as glorious as the heavens
When Mother Kausalya gave birth to the great Lord Rama
Mother Kaikeyi to Bharatha and Mother Sumitra to Lakshmana and Shatrugna!

Is it not sheer bliss when the Great Lord
Hailed as Purushottama, Raghuveera, Ranadheera
Rajakumara, Raghukula Tilaka, Parandaama
Takes birth to save our fallen souls for eternity!

Let the birth of the great Lord take place
In our hearts which are made pure
By His constant remembrance and meditation
O Great One, One without a second! May we ever be Thy votaries!

Many praises to the great Lord, Purushottama
Who was born in the holy home of Dasaratha
In the purest womb of Mother Kausalya
With the greatest brothers Lakshmana, Bharatha and Shatrugna!
