Pic of Abbe Faria

Abbé Faria (José Custódio de Faria), 1756-1819, was a priest and son of a priest who played a leading role in the so-called Conspiracy of Pintos that sought to end the Portuguese rule in Goa in 1787. Abbé Faria did not play any direct role in this event, but took part in the march against the National Convention in Paris. He is better known for his pioneering interest and practice of hypnotism. The logo of Goa Research Net is dedicated to this cultural figure of Goa with an international dimension which this web project wishes to restore to Goa and its children. The monument for Abbé Faria was erected at the side of the State secretariat in Panjim to commemorate his birth centenary.
