Aikido

What is Aikido? Aikido is a unique martial art, relatively new to the world. It has a reputation of being a "gentle" art, and in truth its practitioners are taught that  opponents are people and not just opponents. According to its founder, Morehei Ueshiba, Aikido is also a path to peace and a hope for the future, not based on military might, but inner strength. In my opinion it is all this and more. It has fostered philosophies and psychologies; it teaches the sanctity of life while at the same time being one of the most effective and potentially deadly martial arts you will ever see.  Most translate the meaning of Aikido as "The Way of Spirit Harmony".

UK Aikido
The University of Kentucky Aikido Club is available to anyone who wishes to join, either as a student of the university, or as a member of  Lexington Community College's community outreach program.  We are affiliated with Aikido Schools of Ueshiba, but happily welcome anyone who wants to train with us.  It's the cheapest workout in town, and one of the most fun.  We're very laid back and have a good time while we strive to learn new techniques and skills.  One of the neatest things about Aikido in general is that it is non-competitive; therefore the "I must whip you to prove I am better" attitude is largely absent, making learning much more enjoyable than many martial arts.  If you'd like to come check us out:
