How Toastmasters Can Help You
Your success in business is based on how effective you are. Through participation in the Toastmasters
Communication and Leadership program, people from all backgrounds learn to effectively
speak, conduct a meeting, manage a department or business, lead,
delegate, and motivate.
Here's How Toastmasters Has Benefitted Our Members....
"Before I joined Toastmasters, I couldn't even introduce myself without getting hot, red cheeks, especially at work. My cheecks would turn bright red, my palms would sweat, and I would try to get everything out in one breath when it was my turn to just give a simple status report to my boss! Through Toastmasters, I built up my self confidence and improved my speaking and writing skills! My bosses and co-workers have complimented me on how well I've given presentations and how well written my documents are now."
...."I remember my first time I spoke in front of a group of people. I stood there with my knees locked, my voice shaking, people that were listening to me where struggling to understand what I was trying to say. I remember my breaths where so shallow that it was hard to breathe in or out. The experience was so similar to the one I had going into a haunted house. I was scared to death. I actually felt as though I was going to pass out. As soon as that experience was over I remember wondering, "How do other people handle this? Will this ever get any easier; or is this going to be how I feel every time I speak in a public place?" I had some definite concerns about continuing my goal with Toastmasters. Since my first experience, I am learning of ways to over come nervousness by using tension and anxiety to look and sound like excitement and control. I do understand using anxiety and replace it with excitement or using tension to maintain control doesn't sound like a normal match, but it is so true. As I briefly mentioned previously, a lot of people face these same fears. People that have been speaking for a long time still get nervous. They still have similar experiences as people with much less experience. I have found the skills that are available are not that difficult to learn. You will have to try it to believe it. The key is using your fear to your advantage. This is a great trademark. Toastmasters help you realize different ways to handle disadvantages and to use them for your advantage to enable you to reach your full potential."
