STAR OF DAVID MINISTRIES
History of the STAR OF DAVID
Ma·gen Da·vid also Mo·gen Da·vid 1. A six-pointed star, the symbol of Judaism, that is formed by placing two triangles together, one inverted over the other or interlaced. Also Called Shield of David Also Called Star of David .
The Star of David has quite a history with varying interpretations of just what this Six pointed Star, a “hexagram” means. I myself have taken this “STAR of DAVID” to be used as a Symbol to represent the Day and Hour that I believe we are entering. I did not know at the time when I choose the Star of David as a Representative of the up coming ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ, the history or the different ways people have interpreted its meaning. I did not do any research of these things until “after” I felt led by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to use this Symbol. So I will first share with you what I feel is the meaning of this Star.
Also the term “Star of David Ministries” came to me at this same time which proclaims the Symbolism of this STAR as the Message which shall be proclaimed in this Day and Hour. For I believe by revelation that this STAR Represents Jesus Christ and signifies the Completed Redemption of both the Jew and Gentile by His Blood. It proclaims “It Is DONE”. And only at the consummation of the Ages could this be said. Only after His Bride has been Redeemed and those 144,000 Jewish Saints have been Sealed by the Holy Spirit into the Kingdom of God can this Message be proclaimed. And when this is Fulfilled out shall walk Two Prophets, Two Witnesses, that shall Testify this very thing.
The Two Triangles interlacing each other Represent the Bride of Christ and the 144,000 Jewish saints that have been Redeemed by the Blood of Jesus Christ. One Triangle Represents the Bride of Christ and the Other Triangle Represents the 144,000 Jewish saints. As these are Two separate Works of grace being that the Bride and the 144,000 have a different Place and Position in the Kingdom of God. For there is the Jewish Olive Tree, and the Gentile Olive Tree, and each Tree had a Branch Grafted into the Good Olive Tree (Jesus Christ) to Produce the Spoken Word Fruit. The Fruit Produced from the Gentile Olive Tree was the Bride of Jesus Christ. And the Fruit Produced from the Jewish Olive Tree was the 144,000 Jews. The Gentile Fruit, the Bride of Christ, was Produced First. The Jewish Fruit, the 144,000, will be Produced Last. So you have Jesus with these Two Trees, Two Candlesticks standing in front of Him. And these Two Trees, Two Candlesticks will be Represented by Two Witnesses whom the Lord God will Anoint with His Spirit to proclaim the Everlasting Gospel to the Nations.
ZECHARIAH 4:11-14 Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof? And I answered again, and said unto him, What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves? And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord. Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth. REVELATION 11:3,4 And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
This Star has Six points which is the number of man. And only by combining these Two Triangles can you see this Six pointed Star. As this Symbol is comprised of these Two separate works being Fulfilled and then coming together to Represent Jesus Who is the Author and Finisher of this Great Revelation. He is the Head of this New Race of Man. For Jesus is the Second Adam, the Second Man, Second Son of God, but the Only Begotten Son of God. And the Bride of Christ and the 144,000 are of this Same Spiritual Seed, the Word of God. But He is the Fullness of the Word of God, for All of God was poured into Him, and He therefore Represents the Invisible God. And His Church, His Body, is the Fullness of Him, and therefore His Bride and the 144,000 together Represent Him. He is their Head, the Firstborn of this Royal Race, which was in Him before the foundation of the world. The Bride of Christ has a different place and position than the 144,000 Jews, yet they both were Redeemed by the Lamb of God. And coming together they Proclaim and Testify that Jesus Christ of Nazareth is their God and Saviour, their King and Redeemer, for they have been Washed by the Blood of the Lamb. And that He is that “Star of David”
1 Cor 15:45-47 And so it is written, The “First Man Adam” was made a Living Soul; the Last Adam was made a Quickening Spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The “First Man” is of the earth, earthy: the “Second Man” is the Lord from heaven.
Col 1:12-20 Giving thanks unto the
Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the
saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and
hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption
through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the “Image of the
Invisible God”, the “Firstborn of every creature”: For by him were all
things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and
invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or
powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all
things, and by him all things consist. And he is the “Head of the Body,
the Church”: who is the beginning, the “Firstborn from the Dead”; that
in all things he might have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father
that “In Him Should All Fulness Dwell”; And, having made peace through
the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by
him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
Col 2:9-10 For in him Dwelleth
All The Fulness of the Godhead Bodily. And ye are complete in him, which
is the head of all principality and power:
1 Pet 1:23 Being born again, not
of Corruptible Seed, but of Incorruptible, by the Word of God, which liveth
and abideth for ever.
Eph 1:22-23 And hath put all things
under His Feet, and gave Him to be the Head over all things to the Church,
Which is His Body, the “Fulness Of Him That Filleth All In All”.
The Star of David is seen as a Symbol by the Nations as Representing the Country of Israel and of the Jew’s themselves. The Religious Jew’s see the Star of David as Representing the Messiah Himself, and their Redemption. I see the Star of David as Representing the Messiah which is being proclaimed in a Symbolic Message by those Two Triangles coming together, the Bride and the 144,000, that Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God and that they are His Body.
Eph 2:13-22 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, “who hath made both one”, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of “Twain One New Man”, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in “One Body” by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. For through him we both have access by One Spirit unto the Father. Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the “Foundation of the Apostles and Prophets”, Jesus Christ himself being the Chief Corner Stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
This Concept may be hard to understand for some, so I will use some other illustrations or Types that may give you a better picture of what I’m trying to say.
The Number “12” is a significant number in the natural world as well as in the Scriptures, for it testifies of this very concept. The number 12 by itself does not reveal or complete the significance of that number. It stands alone needing another 12 to go along side it to “complete” and give the “Full” interpretation or picture.
Example: 12 hours a.m., needs 12 hours p.m., to have 24 hours which is in a day. Therefore “24 hours” in this case is the “Symbol” that proclaims the Full Message that each 12 can only testify to in part. Both 12’s must come together to give a “Complete Revelation of Time”. And the number “24” Represents the Fullness and Complete Message of both 12’s. For It speaks of the 12 hours a.m. and the 12 hours p.m..
Example: 12 Tribes of Israel, 12 Apostles of Jesus Christ. And then there are the “24 Elders” which Represent both of these dispensations. Once again the number “24” is used to Represent the “Fullness and complete Message” that the Two 12’s only testify to in part. For we have the 12 Tribes of Israel which are spoken of in the Old Testament. And then we have the 12 Apostles of the Lamb which are spoken of in the New Testament. It has been said that the Old and New Testament is likened unto “Two Wings of a Great Eagle” which Sores High in the Heaven’s and Proclaims the Everlasting Gospel. This Concept also testifies that it takes a Separate Symbol or Type to Proclaim the Full Revelation of both Testaments. For only part of the Revelation is Revealed through the Old Testament, and the other part through the New Testament. One without the other is not Complete. So you have the 12 Tribes of Israel and the 12 Apostles of the Lamb. And then the “24 Elders” used as a Symbol and spoken of as “One Group” like the “Two Wings” on that “One Great Eagle”. This signifies that it takes Both “12’s” making that “One 24” to truly understand and see the Complete Revelation. For “One without the other is not Complete”.
REVELATION 4:4 And round about the throne were “Four and Twenty Seats”: and upon the seats I saw “Four and Twenty Elders” sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold.
Example: The Wall around New Jerusalem has “12 Gates” with the Names of the “12 Tribes of Israel” written on them. This Wall also has “12 Foundations” and in them the Names of the “12 Apostles” of the Lamb. Once again we have the 12 Tribes of Israel and the 12 Apostles of the Lamb being Represented this time by the “Wall” around New Jerusalem. The 12 Gates signify that “Entrance into this Kingdom” comes only through the 12 Tribes of Israel. And the very “Foundation of this Wall” is the Revelation that was Revealed through the 12 Apostles of the Lamb. As the 24 Elders Represent the 12 Tribes of Israel and the 12 Apostles of the Lamb for they are seen as One Group, this Wall Represents the 144,000 Jewish saints that are to be Redeemed Last. And the City, New Jerusalem is a Symbol or Represents the Bride of Christ.
The Bride of Christ was Built upon the Foundation of the 12 Apostles of the Lamb but was not comprised of just the 12 Tribes of Israel. She, the Bride was comprised of people out of All Nations. But in this Wall you have the 12 Gates which are the 12 Tribes of Israel and the Wall itself is built upon the Foundation of the 12 Apostles of the Lamb. And the very Height of this Wall is 144 cubits. Now the 144,000 Jewish saints are comprised of 12,000 Israelis out of Each Tribe and there are 12 Tribes listed which gives us 144,000. And these 144,000 Jewish saints out of the 12 Tribes of Israel will receive that Same Gospel and Revelation given by the 12 Apostles of the Lamb to the Bride of Christ, which is the Revelation of Jesus Christ. So the 144,000 are the 12 Tribes of Israel which are built upon the Foundation of the 12 Apostles of the Lamb, exactly the Description of this Wall. There are 12 Foundations with a total height of 144 cubits, which gives us 12 cubits per Foundation times the 12 Foundations which = 144 cubits. And there are 144,000 Jewish saints, which gives us 12 Thousand per Tribe times the 12 Tribes which = 144,000. So this Wall is a Symbol or Represents the 144,000 Jewish Saints that are to be Redeemed Last.
A wall around a city is used for defense from outside attack. And this Wall around New Jerusalem is the defense of this City, where the Bride of Christ lives. So the 144,000 are the Defense of Jerusalem, The Kings Royal Guard. These Jews are Warriors that fight to Protect the Kingdom of God. Unlike the Bride of Christ that gave Her blood without a fight, (for a women is not to go to war), these Jews will fight in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ to Defend His Word and Kingdom. They have been given the Supernatural Ability to be Warriors that will follow the Lamb of God wheresoever He goes. He is their Captain, and they are His Soldiers in His Army.
REVELATION 21:9-17 And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's Wife. And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal; And had a “Wall Great and High”, and had “Twelve Gates”, and at the gates “Twelve Angels”, and names written thereon, which are the names of the “Twelve Tribes” of the children of Israel: On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates. And the wall of the city had “Twelve Foundations”, and in them the names of the “Twelve Apostles” of the Lamb. And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof. And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, Twelve Thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal. And he measured the “Wall” thereof, an “Hundred and Forty and Four” cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.
REVELATION 7:2-4 And I saw another angel ascending from the East, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the Servants of our God in their foreheads. And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an Hundred and Forty and Four Thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel. REVELATION 14:1 And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an Hundred Forty and Four Thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads.
There is no Scriptures that uses the words, “Star of David” in them. And that term “Star of David” and the Symbol that is associated with that term has only come about in resent history. But in the Scriptures there are some references to a Ensign that shall be lifted up, which is associated with the return of Israel into their homeland. And then there is the Scripture that speaks of a End Time Sign which shall be seen in the heavens which is the Sign of the Son of Man. So I believe that the Ensign that the Word spoke of that would be lifted up in Israel was that “Star of David”, which is on the Israeli Flag. And the Sign of the Son of Man that would be shown in heaven I believe was displayed January 23, 1997. For there was a Perfect Star of David made in the Heavens by the Alignment of the Heavenly Bodies. And as I have already stated I believe that the Star of David is the Sign that Represents the Son of Man, Jesus Christ, in this Day and Hour.
But you the reader will need to seek God yourself as to whether this Ensign and the Sign of the Son of Man spoken of in Scriptures, are indeed speaking of this Star of David. For I have no Scriptures that Support or deny the Star of David being the Symbol that will be used to represent either one of these Signs. I believe by a Revelation of the Holy Spirit given to me. So if you question that, that is fine. I cannot walk in the Light that you have, and you cannot walk in the Light that I have. We must walk in the Light, the Revelation of the Word as we believe it. To walk outside of that is to walk in darkness. So we all must Seek God for Revelation of the Word for our own lives. He is the One that gives the Revelation of the Word, man can only Plant or Water with the Word, but he cannot give Growth or a Revelation to any man.
Num 24:17 I shall see him, but not
now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob
(ISRAEL), and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners
of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.
Isa 18:1-3 Woe to the land shadowing
with wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia: That sendeth ambassadors
by the sea, even in vessels of bulrushes upon the waters, saying, Go, ye
swift messengers, to a nation scattered and peeled, to a people terrible
from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden down, whose
land the rivers have spoiled! All ye inhabitants of the world, and dwellers
on the earth, see ye, when he lifteth up an ensign on the mountains; and
when he bloweth a trumpet, hear ye.
Isa 11:10-12 And in that day there
shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people;
to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious. And it shall
come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second
time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria,
and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from
Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea. And he shall
set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel,
and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the
earth.
Matt 24:30-31 And then shall appear
the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of
the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds
of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with
a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from
the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
HISTORY of the Star of David
The evolution of the six-pointed Jewish star, the “Magen David,” literally the “Shield of David.” also known as the hexagram, or more rarely, Solomon’s Seal, is long and complex. Although it is now the most common and universally recognized sign of Judaism and Jewish identity, both within and outside of the Jewish community, it has only achieved this status in the last two hundred years. Before that it was chiefly associated with magic or with the insignia of individual families or communities. Yet despite its equivocal history, Jews have long been attracted to this design and have sought to ascribe to it venerable origins. In our own day, its universal Jewish popularity, especially as the symbol of the State of Israel, has made the question of its origins moot.
Because of its geometric symmetry, the hexagram has been a popular symbol in many cultures from earliest times. Anthropologists claim that the triangle pointing downward represents female sexuality, and the triangle pointing upward, male sexuality; thus, their combination symbolizes unity and harmony. In alchemy, the two triangles symbolize “fire” and “water”; together, they represent the reconciliation of opposites. Some medieval alchemists even borrowed the talmudic pun - ish mayim, fiery water, and shamayim, heaven - to demonstrate the interpenetration of the two realms. Because if this symbolism, the hexagram was even used occasionally as the emblem displayed above a brandy shop.
The earliest known Jewish use of the hexagram was as a seal in ancient Palestine (6th century B.C.E.) and then eight centuries later in a synagogue frieze in Capernaum. But these early hexagrams may have been only ornamental designs; ironically, a swastika, another popular ancient motif, appears alongside the hexagram on the Capernaum synagogue wall. In the Middle Ages, hexagrams appear frequently on churches, but rarely in synagogues or on Jewish ritual objects. It was the menorah that served as the primary Jewish symbol from antiquity until the post-Renaissance period, not the “ Jewish star.”
Although scholars have attempted to trace the Star of David back to King David himself; to Rabbi Akiva and the Bar Kokhba (“son of the star”) rebellion (135 C.E.); or to kabbalists, especially Rabbi Isaac Luria (16th century), no Jewish literature or artifacts document this claim.
Rather, all evidence suggests that the early use of the hexagram was limited to “practical Kabbalah,” that is, Jewish magic, probably dating back to the 6th century C.E. Legends connect this symbol with the “Seal of Solomon,” the magical signet ring used by King Solomon to control demons and spirits. Although the original ring was inscribed with the Tetragrammaton, the sacred Four-Letter Name of God, medieval amulets imitating this ring substituted the hexagram or pentagram (five-pointed star), often accompanied by rampant lions, for the sacred Name. The star inscribed on these rings was usually called the “Seal of Solomon.”
In addition to such legends about Solomon’s ring, medieval Jewish magical texts spoke of a magic shield possessed by King David which protected him from his enemies. According to these texts, the shield was inscribed with the seventy-two letter name of God, or with Shaddai (Almighty) or angelic names, and was eventually passed down to Judah Maccabee. The 15th-century kabbalist, Isaac Arama, claimed that Psalm 67, later known as the “Menorah Psalm” because of its seven verses (plus an introductory verse), was engraved on David’s shield in the form of a menorah. Another tradition suggests that Isaiah 11:2, enumerating the six aspects of the Divine Spirit, was inscribed on the shield in the outer six triangles of the hexagram. In time, the hexagram replaced this menorah in popular legends about David’s shield, while the five-pointed pentagram became identified with the Seal of Solomon.
The hexagram was also widely regarded as a messianic symbol, because of its legendary connection with David, ancestor of the Messiah. On Sabbath eve, German Jews would light a star-shaped brass oil lamp called a Judenstern (Jewish star), emblematic of the idea that Shabbat was a foretaste of the Messianic Age. The hexagram was also popular among the followers of Shabbatai Tzevi, the false messiah of the 17th century, because of its messianic associations. Among Jewish mystics and wonderworkers, the hexagram was most commonly used as a magical protection against demons, often inscribed on the outside of mezuzot and on amulets.
Another use of the hexagram in medieval times was as a Jewish printer’s mark or heraldic emblem, especially in Prague and among members of the Jewish Foa family, who lived in Italy and Holland. In 1354, Emperor Charles IV of Prague granted the Jews of his city the privilege of displaying their own flag on state occasions. Their flag displayed a large six-pointed star in its center. A similar flag remains to this day in the Altneuschul, the oldest synagogue in Prague. From Prague, the “Magen David” spread to the Jewish communities of Moravia and Bohemia, and then eventually to Eastern Europe. In 17th-century Vienna, the Jewish quarter was separated from the Christian quarter by a boundary stone inscribed with a hexagram on one side and a cross on the other, the first instance of the six-pointed star being used to represent Judaism as a whole, rather than an individual community.
With Jewish emancipation following the French Revolution, Jews began to look for a symbol to represent themselves comparable to the cross used by their Christian neighbors. They settled upon the six-pointed star, principally because of its heraldic associations. Its geometric design and architectural features greatly appealed to synagogue architects, most of whom were non-Jews. Ironically, the religious Jews of Europe and the Orient, already accustomed to seeing hexagrams on kabbalistic amulets, accepted this secularized emblem of the enlightened Jews as a legitimate Jewish symbol, even though it had no religious content or scriptural basis.
When Theodor Herzl looked for a symbol for the new Zionist movement, he chose the Star of David because it was so well known and also because it had no religious associations. In time, it appeared in the center of the flag of the new Jewish state of Israel and has become associated with national redemption. During the Holocaust, the Nazis chose the yellow star as an identifying badge required on the garments of all Jews. After the war, Jews turned this symbol of humiliation and death into a badge of honor.
Today, the Star of David is the most popular and universally recognized symbol of the Jewish People. In his seminal work entitled the Star of Redemption (1912), Franz Rosenzweig framed his philosophy of Judaism around the image of the Jewish star, composed of two conceptual "triads," which together form the basis of Jewish belief: Creation, Revelation, and Redemption; God, Israel, and World.
On the popular level, Jews continue to use the Jewish star as it was used for centuries: as a magical amulet of good luck and as a secularized symbol of Jewish identity.

Despite the fact that the hexagram was used in an ancient past for several goals already in Jewish society, back then it didn't have the meaning the Star of David currently has by far.
In the ninth century AD the current countries Egypt, Syria, Israel and Iran one big Islamic state, ruled by one khalif Al Mutawakkil. This khalif obliged the non-Islamic population, being Christians, Jews and magicians, to wear certain distinguishing marks on top of their clothes. To the Jews this became a yellow spot. By doing this the khalif wanted to prevent (sexual) contacts between the followers of different religions.
This was as far as it is known the first time in history that Jews had to "mark" themselves. In the 13th until the 18th century AD this repeated itself: on instigation of the church and the government Jews (as well as Arabs) in many European countries were forced to wear certain identifying marks (in some countries, among which The Netherlands, again a yellow spot) on their clothes. Again this had the reason to prevent mixing with other religions, in this case the Christians. Only under the influence of the ideas of the Enlightening, people's rights and the French Revolution (18th century) people came to the conclusion, that Jews could be treated as equal citizens as well and the identifying marks were abolished again. The Netherlands in this by the way were fast at this in Europe; in 1619 already in our country the obligation to wear an outer distinguishing mark disappeared.
Simultaneously with the yellow spot with which Jews were 'branded' in the Middle Ages, the hexagram, which more and more became known under the name "Star of David", developed itself to a specifically Jewish symbol. More and more Jews started to use it, e.g. in synagogues, on drawings and on stamps.
In 1354 or 1357 (the exact year is not known) the Emperor Karel IV granted the right to carry their own flag to the Jewish community in Prague. On this flag made of red and gold the Star of David is depicted, with in the middle of this star a Jew hat. Around this time the Star of David started to serve as a "decoration" on Jewish tombstones.
Striking is that the Star of David was depicted in 1656 together with a cross on a borderstone in Vienna, which outlined the Jewish and Christian parts of the city. Later on you could find the Star of David in various Jewish communities situated in the Middle of Europe.
In the 19th century the Star of David had become the most occurring and generally recognized Jewish symbol. Also non-Jews then started to acknowledge the Star of David as a Jewish symbol. Striking is that the Star of David especially in those countries with a great tolerance towards Jews, developed itself as a Jewish symbol.
Through the centuries Jews dreamt of returning to the promised land (Palestine), but ever since the year 70 AD they hadn't tried seriously any more to realize this. At the end of the 19th century this changed however. Under the influence of a growing anti-semitism and violent pogroms in Russia, Romania, France, Germany and other countries and an increasing nationalism throughout Europe, a movement originated within Judaism which had the objective of creating a Jew state in Palestine, which could take care of Jews spread out all over the world. This movement, known under the name of "Zionisme, consisted of several clubs, each of which for itself used different forms of the Star of David as a distinguishing mark (a.o. a Star of David with in the middle the picture of a lion and around it seven stars, one with in the middle of it the word "Zion" and the current Star of David).
Eventually the Star of David developed into a Zionistic sign, which called (and still calls) upon Jews to return to the land of the fathers. By the way the Zionist movement in those years wasn't too big yet, partly because Jews in many countries (among which The Netherlands) had become fairly integrated. In the thirties of this century however this changed drastically by anti-semitical and fascist political movements emerging all over Europe, which caused an ever increasing discrimination of the Jew.
These movements started to abuse the Star of David as an anti-semitical sign; the Star of David symbolized in this the "Jewish danger". So "the Jew" was often depicted in pamphlets as a capitalist with a fat belly and a cigar, who keeps people attached to strings and who controls the factories. At that this caricature wore a Star of David, through which this Jewish symbol got more and more of a negative ring with people.
In 1933 Hitler decided that Jews in Germany had to wear a brand, and in particular with a Jew Star (the insulting name for the Star of David). On the color the nazi's didn't have to think very long. This had to be yellow, because this color had been common in a negative and stigmatizing way to Jews for centuries already. The nazi's even spoke of "jew yellow".
On May 2nd, 1942 the yellow Jew star was "taken into use" in the Netherlands. During the years 1933 to 1945 the Star of David therefore fulfilled a negative (the yellow Jew star) as a positive (the Zionistic Star of David) function. The Zionistic Star of David at that most of the times was blue on a white background, inspired by the Tallit, the blue-white Jewish prayer cloak.
As on May 14th, 1948 the state Israel
was established, the blue Star of David on the white background became
the -logical- national flag. The Star of David now is the symbol of a proud
nation, a sign of hope for every Jew, who seeks protection in their own
country. A positive Star of David
Mogen David, also MAGEN DAVID (Hebrew: Shield of David), a Jewish symbol composed of two overlaid equilateral triangles that form a six-pointed star, also called the star of David. It appears on synagogues, Jewish tombstones, and the flag of the State of Israel.
The symbol originated in antiquity, when, side by side with the five-pointed star, it served as a magical sign or as a decoration. In the Middle Ages the mogen David appeared with greater frequency among Jews but did not assume any special religious significance; it is found as well on some medieval cathedrals. The term shield of David, which in Jewish liturgy signifies God as the protector (shield) of David, gained currency among medieval mystics, who attached magical powers to King David's shield just as earlier magical traditions referred to the five-pointed star as the "seal of Solomon". Kabbalists popularized the use of the symbol as a protection against evil spirits.
After the 17th century, it became the official seal of the Jewish communities and a general sign of Judaism, though it has no biblical or Talmudic authority. Franz Rosenzweig (1886-1929) interpreted the double triad to mean God, world, and man; creation, revelation, and redemption. The yellow badge that Jews in occupied Europe were forced by Nazis to wear has invested the Mogen David with a symbolism indicating martyrdom and heroism. (From Encyclopedia Britannica)
These are some Concepts that others have pertaining to the Star of David
The Star of David is made up of two equilateral triangles. One triangle is pointing down, and the other triangle is pointing up. The triangle that is pointing down is God's triangle and represents the trichotomy of Soul, Body, and Spirit, or God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit reaching down to man. The triangle that is pointing up is man's triangle and also represents the trichotomy of Soul, Body, and Spirit, but of man reaching up to God.
Only in Jesus Christ is God reconciled to man. Only in Jesus Christ do God and man have At-One-Ment. God and man coming together in a physical form only exists in the person of Jesus Christ. The Star of David is also the symbol that fully represents the spiritual intercourse referenced in John chapter 17 where Jesus Christ is in God, man is in Jesus Christ, and thereby man is in God through Jesus Christ. The symbol for the Messiah, the Greatest King, or King of Kings; who would come from the lineage of David, who would be fully God and also fully man throughout eternity can only be Jesus the Christ - the God/Man. The Star of David is and can only be the symbol for Jesus Christ.
Revelation 22:16 (NIV) "I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star."
Six million Jews went to their deaths during the horrors of World War II with the symbol of Jesus Christ sewed on their clothes. Today, the State of Israel flies the flag and symbol of a King over them that they do not recognize:
The mandala of the hexagram, also
known as the "Star of David" is much older than Judaism, older even than
history! As an archetypal symbol for the sacred union of the opposite energies,
it is the "yin-yang" of western civilization. Formed by the intertwining
of the "fire" and "water" triangles (the male "blade" and the female "chalice")
this symbol represents the masculine and feminine principles in perfect
union, the "sacred marriage" or "hieros gamous" of the ancient world. In
India the symbol represents the "cosmic dance" of Shiva and Shakti, and
the Jewish Kaballah suggests that the Ark of the Covenant contains, in
addition to the tables of the Ten Commandments, "a regular hexagram representing
a man and woman in intimate embrace," Since "Sacred Union" is the source
of all life on this planet, the six-pointed star uniting the archetypal
male and female triangles has long been acknowledged as the model for balance
and wholeness. Medieval Alchemists called the Star the "Philosopher's stone,"
adding a tiny dot on the upper right hand point to represent the presence
of God and guidance of the Divine Spirit. (The Archetypal Mandala of the
Star of David by Margaret Starbird)
In Hebrew, the "Star of David", the double-triangle pattern, is known as the "Mogan David", which is usually translated to mean "star" or "shield" of David. But we can analyze the meaning of the Hebrew words to obtain a more precise meaning. The word translated as "star" or "shield" actually consists of two parts. "MoG" and "-aN". In Hebrew the root MoG is the root that means magician, as in Magus/magi, and it indicates "manifestation." The letter "M" means "source of" (M=Mem="sea/expanse") and the letter "G" (G=Gimel="camel") means "action" or "carrying." The final "N" means "to go on forever" (as in the English, "go on to the Nth degree".) David, spelled Dalet ("D"), Vov ("F"), Dalet ("D") in Hebrew, means to repeatedly do (Vov, "F") what happens at a "delta", the English and Greek meaning of the Hebrew word "dalet." David represents dispensing and giving out. (A line-like river fans out into a two-dimensional plane as it dispenses itself into the sea at a delta.)
Thus, in Hebrew, the double-triangle, known as the Mogan David represents the "dispensation of ongoing manifestation." In other words, the double-triangle represents the way one dimension pours itself out into the next dimension just like the way a seed pours itself out until it becomes a fruit. This is the sacred process and the sacred path. It is an animation of the "hero's journey" expressed in a sequence of geometric snapshots. It models the critical point of life, the process of self-unfurling from generation to generation, endlessly.
This reference is not speaking of the Star of David but his concept on Love can be applied as to “Why” Israel is Represented by the Star of David
The world is divided to two centers of gravity- West and East. The Western spiritual attitude is: there is no God, no fate, no direction from above- Humans are the only rulers. Therefore everything depends on the will of human beings, and in order to achieve one has to fight (or struggle). Actually, the Western world represents the classical masculine approach. In the eastern world they say: nothing depends on us. Everything is "Karma", fate and the in the hand of God. One has to "flow" with God, not to resist. That's why the eastern world actually represents the classical feminine approach.
Both those approaches are right, but also wrong. They are both right because each side represents one side- either a masculine or a feminine force. They are both wrong because none of them can see the other side. The only place in the world, whose energy can contain, simultaneously, femininity and masculinity - is the land of Israel, because the land of Israel is in the middle, both geographically and spiritually. It is located where east and west meet. Therefore, the eyes of the whole world are directed to that land. That is why there is so much interest in Israel. The wish to create peace and harmony in the middle east comes from the fact that the fate of the whole world depends on what happens in The land of Israel. Only those who live in Israel can create the alchemy of love and spread it as light to the other nations. The Jews are the ones who were chosen for this role that bears much responsibility.
The eastern world is "feminine", so it is more emotional. The western world is "masculine" and so more inclined to the intellect. Now the western and eastern worlds begin to change. In the west they look for the other side because the intellect alone didn't bring them happiness. It brought achievements, technology and control over the world - but no sense of satisfaction, tranquillity and happiness. Therefore, recently the western world has begun importing many spiritual methods from the east, feminine attitudes based on the heart. In the east there is a movement in the other direction. They become more "intellectual", because they have insufficient material achievements and independence.
Israel symbolizes the struggle between the western world and the eastern world, because it is considered the center of the world. Therefore, the greatest polarity is found in Israel, The Arab-Israeli conflict. Israel itself is in a constant state of inner split between the right wing and the left wing - with no real decision. If Israel is united- if she has inner alchemy- this will be the world transformation (repair), because the consequence will be world peace and harmony. But it all depends on the Jews in Israel and their attitude. If they understand the unity paradox and make it true the world will have salvation....." ("The Alchemy of Love", by Yoav Berenson.)
