This site was created primarily as a place for me, a self described wide-eyed radical bleeding-heart on-my-sleeve Liberal Christian to air my views on issues that effect the church. It is intended to be multifaceted, that is covering many issues and topics, and will as I get more time to put work into it. This means that Uthur's Alcove will grow, so come back periodically and see if I have anything new to offer.
The following sections are offered at present:
MORE ABOUT THE INHABITANT OF UTHUR'S ALCOVE
Here you will find a brief biography, which among other things tells you how I got the name "Uthur, from the Town by the Sea." "The Gauntlet," accessed from this section, contains ten theological statements that reflect my views on most of the "fundamentals" of Christian thinking. The opening page of this section explains what I mean when I call myself a "wide-eyed radical bleeding-heart on-my-sleeve liberal Christian. Also, from this page you can access a larger version of my logo, (the cross and crown in a circle), and find an explanation of each of the components.
CHURCH AND HOMOSEXUALITY (a booklet)
I am a straight male, married with two children and one grandchild. I have a healthy respect, or (depending on your perspective) an obsessional admiration for the beauty of the female form. The idea of having a same-gender sexual partner is repugnant to me. Still, I have always had compassion for all members of the human family, especially those who are shunted aside for reasons that they have no control over.
In this section I start by examining the issue from a religious-anthropological perspective. Why did the "law-giver" feel the need to condemn all homosexual activity. Once I discovered the reason I was able to dismiss that condemnation in the same manner as I dismiss the flat-earth theory. Then I find the freedom (Galations 5:1) to listen to the Spirit of God and seek His guidance on this issue. This section is a self-published booklet, detailing my explorations on the issue of homosexuality as it involves the Christian Churches.
COMPLIANCE CHECKS ARE A MISERABLE FAILURE
The use of Compliance Checks as the sole means of enforcing laws against the sale of tobacco or alcohol to minors have failed. They have failed to reduce teen use of these products. They also appear to have failed to reduce sales of these products to those under age. Yet worse, they have made victims out of many cashiers who honestly try to do their duty to the law, but were caught once in a lapse of judgment. In their zeal to enforce a law, any law, even if it doesn't work. law enforcement has destroyed the lives of the innocent. This gross injustice must be stopped!
ANY NEW SECTIONS WILL GO HERE
LINKS
Instead of including the links that I find meaningful in the sections they apply for, I have created a separate section just for them. It will save me time as I update them. From the opening page in the links section you will be able to choose the section with the applicable links you wish to explore. In time, there will also be a link to the appropriate links page from that section.
FEEDBACK
In the same manner as the links section, I have chosen to have a separate feedback section. From the opening page, you will be able to choose the appropriate section for feedback. Again, in time there will also be a link from each section to their applicable feedback page.
DOCUMENT LIST
This is a list of every HTML document on the site, presented in outline form, with this page being the focus. It lists the documents by title only. It might be the equivalent of a site map, done in written (outline) format. It does not include graphics, unless those graphics are central to the document that contains them. For those of you searching for a particular document, it might save time.
