Rendezvous on Board Rose
Fell's Point, Baltimore, October 26, 1997
A crew of listswains (members of the patrickobrian and searoom-l discussion lists) recently met on board Rose, a replica of an 18th century frigate of the Royal Navy - very similar to Jack Aubrey's beloved Surprise. We met for a fine, though slightly damp afternoon of good fellowship, grub, and to help Anne Chotzinoff Grossman and Lisa Grossman Thomas launch their latest book, Lobscouse and Spotted Dog, the gastronomic companion to the Aubrey/Maturin novels of Patrick O'Brian. Captain Bailey of the Rose kindly welcomed us on board, and lissun Pete Lafen cheerfully served as purser, president of the mess, and Killick-surrogate.
