Candy Schroeder

Hi! My name is Candy Schroeder and I'm a senior chemistry/general science major, religion minor at Coe College (a small, unknown liberal arts college in Cedar Rapids, Iowa). I am currently applying to medical school and hoping to achieve my life's dream of becoming a physician. (And I think that about wraps up the boring stats...!)

I first came across pantheism when I found Paul's home page. I was researching Spinoza for a paper I had to present, and found myself so enthralled with what Paul had to say that I corresponded with him. I have never been someone you could consider 'strictly religious', but I have always felt a special communication with the outdoors. After I let go of my fears of being non-Christian, I realized that I consider the energy that flows through everything around me sacred. I can feel the connection between myself and all that I'm surrounded by (on good days!), and it is such a spectacular feeling that I just don't know how to describe it. I have no 'god' per se, and I have no beliefs in an afterlife, beyond the biology and values that I will pass through my children and the experience I might have as dust of a body no longer living. I worship nature, and I see everything as sacred because of that very nature.

I was so excited when I joined the pantheism mailing list, because it meant that there is hope for more people like us out there! Even though I don't have a chance to join in the discussion very much, I am amazed and enthralled every day by the beauty and insight I see in all of you...thank you!
