Jehovah's Witnesses from around the world have used letter-writing and the telephone to reach people in cases where they otherwise may not have been reached. Below are some presentations used in these forms of witnessing:
Telephone Presentation #1:
"Hello. My name is ______. I have been speaking briefly with people in your neighborhood (or building) about how peace might be achieved. Do you think there will ever be peace worldwide? (Allow for response.) To put your mind at ease, I am not doing a survey or selling anything. Rather, I have been sharing the though from the Holy Scriptures that God will actually bring peace."--This conversation can then proceed with a brief Scriptural discussion.
Telephone Presentation #2:
"Good evening. My name is ______. I am a volunteer in your area. I have been getting the opinions of individuals living in your neighborhood. Many are concerned about personal safety in view of the escalating violence and crime in our area. Is this something that concerns you? (Allow for response.) Do you think there will ever be a time when the whole world will feel secure?"--Allow for a reply, and proceed with a Scriptural message.
Letter #1:
Dear Mr./Mrs. _____:
I am writing you this letter today because it seems that in today's complex society, it is becoming quite difficult to make wise decisions. However, an inspired writing almost 2000 years ago tells us the source of reliable advice:
"All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work."--2 Timothy 3:16, 17.
The Bible tells us how to cope with life's anxieties. Jesus Christ himself said,
"So never be anxious and say, 'What are we to eat?' or 'What are we to drink?' or 'What are we to put on?' For all these are the things the nations are eagerly pursuing. For your heavenly Father knows you need these things. Keep on, then, seeking first the Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these other things will be added to you."--Matthew 6:23-25.
The Scriptures also tell us how to use our time most effectively:
"So keep strict watch that how you walk is not as unwise person but as wise persons, buying out the opportune time for yourselves, because the days are wicked. On this account cease becoming unreasonable, but go on perceiving what the will of Jehovah [God] is."--Ephesians 5:15-17.
How can we perceive what the will of God is? How can we seek first God's Kingdom and his righteousness? Answers to such questions can be found only be studying the Bible carefully for ourselves. Simply belonging to a church or believing a clergyman is not sufficient to gain God's gift of eternal life. (Please see John 17:3.) Such a study will help you to find out the Bible's message for us today, as well as how we can apply that message in our lives.
Jehovah's Witnesses offer a free, convenient Bible study program, with the use of the 192-page pocket-sized Bible handbook Knowledge that Leads to Everlasting Life. You can avail yourself of this provision by contacting me at [phone number] or by speaking with Jehovah's Witnesses the next time they call at your door.
Sincerely,
[your name]
