A joint ministry of Saint Charles and Nativity of Our Lady Parishes is the RCIA. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, or Catechumenate, is a process of inquiry, discovery and experience of church for persons who are considering becoming members of the Roman Catholic Church. Each year a team of faithful parishioners share their faith as the process goes through its stages to the high point at the Easter Vigil Celebration.

The parishes of Amherst follow the curriculum established by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops for Grades Primary through 6. We adapt a program to suit Junior High students. We use a peer ministry approach with the resources of our Senior Youth Group as peer catechists. Our Confirmation preparation follows a one year intensive program directed by adult catechists who are committed to our Catholic faith and tradition.
The elementary classes from Primary to Grade 6 are held Sunday mornings at two local schools. Nativity of Our Lady Parish conducts its classes at West Highlands School and Saint Charles Parish conducts its classes at Saint Charles School. Grades 7 and 8 sessions are usually held on Sunday afternoons using parish facilities while confirmation classes are held in parishioners homes.
Programs are directed at both Amherst parishes by Deacon Howard Gotell and Mrs Charlene Moore is a volunteer coordinator at Nativity of Our Lady Parish.
