There are many places for parents to turn for support and assistance in Hunterdon County. Unfortunately, many do not yet have web sites or e-mail access, but this is changing. If we missed a resource you have found useful or know of, please feel free to write us so that we may include it on our site.
Parent Groups
SPEAK (Support for Parents with Exceptionally Able Kids.). This group primarily supports parents in and around the Hunterdon Central High School District sending area. It generally meets monthly in Flemington and presents seminars, trainings, and discussions of interest to parents with children who have disabilities. (908) 788-7317
The Friends of North Hunterdon-Voorhees Special Education. This group has been very active in improving educational opportunities for children who are classified at North Hunterdon and Voorhees High Schools. It also includes many members who have children in sending districts to the two high schools. Meets monthly in Annandale, usually providing a speaker program and providing an opportunity for north county residents to network.
The Arc of Hunterdon Family Support Group This group meets monthly at different locations around the county and is designed to provide support for persons with developmental disabilities and their families. The Tourette's Syndrome Support Group of Central New Jersey. The purpose of this group is to support persons with Tourette's Syndrome in Central New Jersey. Meetings are quarterly at the Hunterdon Medical Center. The group is also a good place to go for support about ADD and ADHD issues, since Tourette's Syndrome often includes this neurological condition.

The State of New Jersey administers special education policies through County Superintendents of Education. Mediation requests, or requests for clarification of state policies can be directed to our local office, or to the appropriate state office in Trenton. (See Basic Rights Section for how this all works)

The Federal Government enforces Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, which prohibits discrimination based on disability by federally funded institutions (such as local school districts), through its regional office in New York city.

Health Resources
The Hunterdon Medical Center is responsible for providing and coordinating early intervention services for children under three years of age with disabilities in Hunterdon County. It can also be a resource for medical and educational evaluation services.
