The name "La Rosa Magra" , chosen for this page intends to stess a cultural, artistic and human interchange with the you all.

Do you think to have seen art work describing landscape, people and sights of Sorrentine Peninsula in 1800 ?
La Rosa Magra was a place in Sorrento ( Naples area, Italy ) where during the Grand Tour period artists from all over the world used to meet.
It was a small hotel.
It closed in 1890 and was run by a Domenico Fiorentino.
The history connected is quite neglected by the official reports.
J have a copy of the book of the hotel signed by the artists ( as well as common people ) , many of whom j am still finding about.
J will scan part of it and put it on the web for you, and also for me to know more.
Documents state that Ibsen was there with the family in 1867 and so did may many English, American, Russian, French, German, Italian ecc. painters and other artists.
My father is Domenico Fiorentino.
He will be 75 in november 1998.
He has been an artist since 1938, when he was 15 years old.
The grand father of his grandfather Domenico was the man of the pension.
With a work in progress and with your help J will give more and more information and documents on "La Rosa Magra", and also on the to-day Sorrentine Painting School and on Domenico Fiorentino.
This is history of the world more than of my town and of my family.
